About Me

Hi there.
I grew up in a small town in eastern Quebec, then went to Quebec city to study classical piano. I worked a bit in a chocolate shop there and went traveling alone for 4 months in Taiwan, doing some wwoofing, meeting nice people I went visiting in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand. I also went in Jamaica with a friend in that time. Then, I return in Quebec just in time for the 2012 student strike and moved to Montreal to study social sciences at UQAM. My critical thinking improved as I met politically involved students and as I learned all those things about history, anthropology, feminist study, litterature, philosophy, sociology and so on. Now, I’m a bit terrified by the state of the world (but who isn’t?), by the omnipresence of patriarchy, by the debt and prison slaveries, by the absurdity of hierarchies, by the ongoing colonialism of this land, by the way other animals are treated, and a lot more. But I think i’m still able to find hope somewhere in all this.

The big city became too much for me, you know, the pace, the concrete, the square organisation of everything, so I came back in eastern Quebec. I found a small land with friends and we built a house there! It’s not finished, but its amazing and I’m always close to the forest, the river and the mountains. It’s helping a lot.

And now that I’m growing roots, I’d feel the need to balance that with some traveling!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My experiences :
I think I just couchsurfed two time. The first time I was in Thailand, at the end of my 4 months trip in asia, and I had a lot of trouble escaping from touristic area, and a lot of trouble with my eyes. So it's was kind of bad. Then I decided to surf a couch somewhere in the east part of the country and I fell on a really nice and funny english teacher. I was in town since less than an hour and I was meeting a lot of people. He brought me in his school, I talked with his shy and young students and they showed me all how it was working there. It was really interesting and beautiful. I decided to stay there 5 days and it was clearly my 5 favorite ones in this country. When I left we were so sad, I felt as if I left an old friend without the certainty to meet him again in the future.

The second time, it was for my first day in Jamaica. We arrived there not understanding at all the social dynamics and it was really helpful to meet someone who could explain those things to us.

Couchsurfing is just great. It's the best way I know to meet interesting people when traveling. And the fact that it's free also changes everything. I mean, for me it makes the difference between traveling or not!
