About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to be the best in the things that I do

ABOUT ME

I am an active guy who loves to keep him self busy with the things he loves and that is history. For the rest I like to enjoy life at it fullest with family and friends. I love to meet new and open-minded people.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that you are the primary force that controls your life. I strongly believe in self-development. I put some quotes down here which has influenced my life a lot.

Niet peyzen, doen! (Don't think, do)

Winners do. Losers do not do.
- Dr. Phil -

Minds are like parachutes. They only function when they are open.
- Sir Thomas Dewar -

Succes is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.
- Wiston Churchill-

The future depends on what we do in the present.
-Mahatma Gandhi-

Say Yes more.
- Danny Wallace, Yes Man-

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I usually go to couchsurfing meetings in Antwerp. I have hosted around 30 people already. Love to show people around my beautiful city of Antwerp. I haven't surfed yet so that is my next mission.

Interests

good conversations, books, (military) history, volunteering (animated playgrounds/summer schemes), good food, beer, British Comedy, Napoleonic re-enactment, partying, politics, deep-house-music

Music, Movies, and Books

My all-time favourite writer is Danny Wallace. Brilliant author. His most inspiring book is 'Yes Man'. Others: 1984 (George Orwell), Hornblower series (C.S. Forester), Aubrey-Maturin series (Patrick O'Brian),...But in general I read a lot of non-fiction about history, mostly Napoleonic Wars.
Movies: Waterloo, Master and Commander, and I love science fiction, especially about utopia's/dis-utopia's (Star Wars, Equilibrium, Divergent,...) but also a mindless comedy from time to time.
Music: I can appreciate lots of music for pop/dancemusic to classic to fife-and-drum to Jazz (Chet Baker). But I love deep house and lounge music. It helps me to relax, to power-up or to get me working.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- lived for 7 months as a Comenius teacher assistant in Northern Ireland (UK) and made friends for life
- I gave a course to youth workers in South Africa. Brilliant experience.
- re-enactment: did something cool things and have been to so many places through the best hobby in the world!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to share my passion of history and Antwerp to my hosts. If time permits, I like to take surfers on a historical walk around the city. So get your walking shoes on!
I know a lot of pubs so I'm always up for a drink or party with surfers!
And in the morning I love to organise a little nice breakfast for my surfers.
