ABOUT ME

My name’s Jonathan and I am terrible at chess.Right now, there’s a guitar circle in my living room where everyone goes around singing one line in a foreign language. Yesterday, I just finished my last open mic in San Diego where I played a song I wrote on guitar about a girl that I met this month that I’m going to have to leave when I move to Eugene Oregon. Earlier yesterday, I went surfing. It was cold, the waves were huge. I spent most of the time paddling out and only got on the board twice. I’m not exactly that great at surfing either. I haven’t been surfing for awhile because for a few weeks straight, my friend and I ran barefoot every morning on the beach for 4 to 6 miles. It was kind of nostalgic; I use to run cross country when I was in High School. I was actually pretty good at that. We stopped running consistently once he started school and my foot started hurting. I’ll get back to it, promise.I’m really big on Sake Bombs, warm Sake is just yayzies! I use to be really uptight when it comes to drinking, I use to hate the taste of beer. Every night in my old hometown of San Francisco, I use to refuse every alcoholic offer and ended up being the isolated outlier when it comes to most social events. Two to three weeks into San Diego changed all of that. San Diego has got to be the party epicenter of all of California! The clubs are packed shoulder to shoulder. The lines to get in are stretched from back to forward. With every day of the week designated to a different priority, like tacos on Tuesdays, there’s always an excuse to have a lot more fun than you should be having.I’m on chapter 16 of a book I’m writing that’s constantly needing my nurturing attention. It’s kind of like my own literary growing baby. I’ve written countless outlines, filled up pages in notebooks, receipt papers, brainstormed, spent hours not paying attention to customers where I work, and filling out every inch of plot line and dialogue that needs help blooming by carefully cradling it in my memory, hoping that before it disappears I could reach something to write on. My writing is mostly influenced by Spanish authors and poets like Carlos Ruiz Zafon and Pablo Neruda. I’m currently finishing the second Harry Potter book, The Chamber of Secrets. I don’t really care what anyone says, I think Hufflepuffs are awesome! They’re way better than Gryffindor. I grew up in a small town called San Francisco, you might’ve heard of it. They’re known for a bridge and it’s joyful flamboyance. It’s a great city. For a long time I was fully submerged into the music “groupie” culture. I always played guitar, but not very well. My friends played in a post rock band. Post rock: genre, also known as shoegaze or dream electronic; it’s categorized with bands like Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, and This Will Destroy You. Every weekend I would help carry music equipment into different venues to skip cover charges and we would spend the whole night crowdsurfing until we ended up at someone’s house. Those were good times! It wasn’t just the music scene that made San Francisco irresistible. There was Dolores Park, where every afternoon looked like a Occupy without the pickets, the riot police, and everyone just sits just because it wasn’t foggy outside. If you made the attempt to do some searching, there’s a small street called Valencia where the clubs are free and the inside feels like a warm belly where every breath you take belongs to someone else. There’s pizza and donuts that taste like the crispy ends of pancakes. There’s cheap beer and pool tables. There’s bathrooms that smell terrible, and thin vertical houses with rosewood floors and a collection of pillar candles for a fireplace. It also gets foggy sometimes.I got my first smart phone just about a year ago. The background is the highly talked about photo of the couple kissing on the floor of the Vancouver riots. I don’t own a lot of things. I could pretty much fit everything I own in my dufflebag. On my shelf, I have allergy medicine and a copy of He’s Just Not That Into You, but I’m just not that into the book to have gone past the first chapter. I really want a straw cowboy hat and a hufflepuff t-shirt. I’m really into stupid funny things. I have this Snoopy T-shirt where Snoopy looks all cool with his Sunglasses and it has a tag line that says, “I’m just here for the chicks.” I think it’s a great conversation piece. I’m a terrible cook. I cut my own hair. I have two pairs of shoes, both black, one pair of boots. I wear V- neck shirts and yell at the top of my lungs at sports bars when I’m pretty sure I’ve only figured out who’s playing sometime during the third quarter of a football game. I could play Lady Gaga on guitar and tell people that I ran a sub 5 minute mile back in High School. I’m not the first person to dance on the dancefloor, but I’m most likely the second. I made plans to go skinny dipping tomorrow, and I do not like goodbyes. I tell people how my day was starting with how warm the water was in the shower because I hate being vague. The world’s too complicated to justify people through adjectives, but you could always find truth in history. Every moment is beautifully painful because we spend so much time thinking about questions that we want to be asking because we’ve lost our trust in time.My name’s Jonathan and I like cookies and when I throw punches under water the ocean tells me to stop.

I've been to a few couchsurfing meetups. Great people! Good times!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We were playing King’s Cup at the fourth house I was staying at in Portland. The house had prayer flags lined across the porch and every night a small gray cat would nestle in my lap every time I fell asleep. I brought Cheeto poofs and Honey Comb cereal to the table. We would make up rules for every turn in the game, and I was trying to sneak by not having to drink that much alcohol by diluting every drink with Sprite soda. I hadn’t learned to keep my alcohol down by at that time.

Before we left to the bar, I played guitar with one of the friend’s my couchsurfing host invited over. We sang “Mr.Brightside” by the Killers. Once we got to the bar, we saw a ping pong table somewhere in the back. I’ve never met anyone who’s slightly descent at ping pong. Everyone I know has to run to get the ball after every serve, but for some reason, we thought that playing ping pong with alcohol in our system would make us pro.

When we got home we played beerpong with PBR and high fived each other every time the ball made it into the cup. It was raining that night in Portland. I think it rained every night in Portland. The weather didn’t matter though. No one’s ever cold when they’re having a good time.

Interests. I think I covered most of my interests in my description. I'm interested in going to Burning Man, Fairie Worlds, running a marathon in Antartica. I'm interested in learning how to use a pommel horse, getting a college degree in film and then I plan on getting a masters in something obscure and exciting. I want to wear a suit and have window shades that open up by clicking a remote control. I want a lot of things. I want to learn how to cook.

Okay, there's this band called The Dandelion War, it is thee best depressing music ever! Way better than Coldplay or Radiohead. My guitar music writing fiasco is mainly influenced by Death Cab For Cutie, Raised by Swans, Damien Rice, Safetysuit, and The Airborne Toxic Event. I'm in San Diego right now, so I definitely end up listening to a lot of Dubstep and pop dance music.

The past five books I've read and am currently reading, is the Harry Potter series, The Paris Wife, The Hunger Games, The Shadow of the Wind, and The Angel's Game.

There's a lot of movies in the world. Let's go watch one!

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I went surfing yesterday. I wrote a song on guitar this morning. I wrote my multi-paragraph description that I use for my CS profile today, that was pretty amazing. I had a few oreos a few minutes ago. I missed the sunset but I turned on the blue Christmas lights in my room. I mean it's no Christopher Nolan movie or Sistine Chapel. But, they're definitely tiny pockets of amazing feelings.
