Same as most people here, I believe: When travelling, it is very important for me to discover not only the outer image of the country, but the everyday life as well. This cannot be done very well when staying in hotels. The locals are the ones who know the best what is going on.

Lately, I've been managing to host people as well. This has been equally great, meeting all the interesting individuals and helping out when I can = giving back to the community.

Teach, learn, share - when meeting someone new you can do all three at once. You share, they share, you both teach and learn. There is always something you know and the other person does not.

I always try and find a way to give back for peoples' hospitality. Bringing gifts is a classic - and spending time together is the most valuable after all.
