About Me

Hi there!

After a ~7 year hiatus, I've returned to Couchsurfing for an upcoming trip to Mexico City!

I'm born & raised in Northern California & have a deep affinity for the Bay Area. I went to college at Berkeley and now live in Oakland & work in San Francisco. Although I have roots here in CA, traveling is one of my longest held passions. I took my first international trip when I was 13 -- via a student exchange in Japan -- and got totally hooked on the experience. Since then - I've traversed most of central and Western Europe (from Crete to Malaga to Amsterdam to Arctic Sweden to Valdobbiadene to Pilsen). I've also spent some time in South America & of course lots of time on road trips here in the US.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Practically, I'm on Couchsurfing with the hopes of connecting with new people during an upcoming trip to Mexico City.

More importantly, I'm on Couchsurfing because I enjoy having authentic & unique experiences while visiting new countries, oftentimes with people who are from the location I'm visiting. I think that big-name, top 10 attractions garner attention for good reason, but that the moments I remember most come from either conversation with locals or more subtle attractions.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a big David Foster Wallace fan, particularly his collections of Essays.

On the music front - I love hip hop & rap. Drake, Kanye, Big Sean, Lil Uzi, Kendrick, Lil Yachty are some contemporary favorites; Eminem, Wu Tang, Nas, Biggie are my picks from the 90s. Outside of Rap, I've been listening to the Doors & the Chili Peppers; I also like Nirvana, old Blues (BB King mainly), Florence & the Machine, the Stones, Neil Young, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hm. Might be sad that this will relate to work - but I solved a very interesting, global problem in my last couple quarters at work. It was not terribly complex but my findings led to a major feature adjustment and prompted colleagues from across the globe to learn more about my work.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've spent a fair amount of time thinking about different life paths & enjoy sharing perspectives on decision-making, relationships, work, etc.

I use SQL in my job a lot and am pretty good at teaching others if interested. I'm also fairly knowledgeable about the tech world here in SF.

Countries I’ve Visited

Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Peru, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
