ABOUT ME

I'm 50 and single, very independent and enjoying the world, having retired early from working in local government and health. I read a lot, love music (many sorts, not heavy metal but including classical and opera, bluegrass etc), enjoy film, food (cooking and eating), gardens, art, theatre, history, meeting people, sharing hospitality.

PHILOSOPHY

We live in a very mixed-up world, with so many privileges accessible to such a small proportion of the world's population. Inequality is everywhere and it makes me very uncomfortable and angry. I cherish friendship, generosity, courtesy, honesty and creativity. The world is full of amazing people doing great things. A sense of humour helps, too. And I don't eat meat.

Opera. Bluegrass. World music. Classical. Pop.
Currently catching up on classic movies on DVD. Favourties include The Misfits, Bull Durham, 1900, Buena Vista Social Club, New York, New York, almost anything by Scorsese and Altman, Almodovar, Werner Herzog, and lots more.
I read a lot of (usually fairly serious) fiction and I think I'm pretty widely-read, including in terms of world literature. I am also now studying philosophy, and I'm particularly interested in ethics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I walked on a beach in South Georgia at about 5am, with about 200,000 king penguins.
