ABOUT ME

I'm a writer by profession and passion and have spent the past eight-plus years in Africa. I'm currently, as of September '15, making a transition of sorts to Athens, although for how long is anybody's guess. Looking for new friends and fresh adventures in unexpected places.

I'm not as active as I used to be, but that might change now that I'm back in Europe.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Slowly slouching my way across the globe, leaving a trail of surfed couches in my wake. Nothing but great experiences so far, and looking forward to adding many, many more to my list.

兴趣

It goes without saying that traveling belongs near the top of this list. I'm a feverish reader, I write like it's my job (oh, wait: it is), and I believe there's no pleasure as simple or lovely as eating a strange food, wandering the streets of a strange city.

Too many to list in detail, so I don't even know where to begin. I've got about two dozen books crammed into my backpack, along with all the balled-up socks and second-hand t-shirts I picked up in Kampala. I've rediscovered the joys of Graham Greene and V.S. Naipaul and Hemingway. I'm wading through DeLillo's 'Underworld' and gearing up for Nadine Gordimer's 'Jump.' I've come to terms with the fact that nothing - nothing at all - I write about Africa will compare with Ryszard Kapuscinski's "The Shadow of the Sun." Oh, and of course, Saul Bellow's "Collected Stories" is my one indispensible book. It's on its fourth continent this year, and really is starting to look it. (No offense, buddy.)
