I'm a neuroscience grad student and a curious bit of contemplation. I want to know everything about everything.I've lived in Durham and Carrboro in North Carolina for 2 years each. Before arriving in NC, I grew up in the town of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.I like to have all night dance parties, have engaging conversations, and explore unique places. Long, meandering discussions over drinks and nights full of unique adventures are some of my favorite things.I have constant issues with the fact that I can't read, see, be, and do everything I want in the world.
Now I'm here in Madison and in love with lakes and bikes.
Some of my favorite quotes sum it up pretty well:"You should chose your heroes a-la carte. Picking and choosing from one
and then another, thereby assembling a kind of composite hero. That way
when you discover something reprehensible about any one of them it
matters nothing to you because that's not the part of them that piqued
your interest." - Neil deGrasse Tyson, via his AMA on Reddit"I'd like to say that people . . . people can change anything they want
to. And that means everything in the world. Show me any country . . .
and there'll be people in it just trying to take their humanity back
into the center of the ring . . . . And follow that for a time. Y'know,
think on that. Without people you're nothing." -- Joe Strummer"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." - MLK "There can be no doubt, only artists are attracted to science." - Santiago Ramón y Cajal "Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity."- Horace Mann "If you make sure that nothing bad ever happens to you, you'll also make sure nothing really good ever happens to you either."
"Dissent is the native activity of the scientist, and it has got him
into a good deal of trouble in the last years. But if that is cut off,
what is left will not be a scientist. And I doubt whether it will be a
man." --Jacob Bronowski
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm just getting started! But right now, by association.
So I moved into a house composed completely of CouchSurfers in North Carolina, and I'd
heard of and loved the idea previously, so I finally filled out this
profile. No concrete experiences yet, but excited to gain some.
Science and all wonderful and terrible things arising from it, books, bicycles, philosophy, learning, curiosity, the Internet and all wonderful and terrible things arising from it, rock bands, music in general, internationalism, tofu, quick wits, awkward humor, laughing, dance parties, stopping to smell the flowers, trying local microbrews, popiscles, delusions of grandeur, daydreams, my Imaginary Boyfriends, accents of all types, mung bean sprouts, green tea, singers, songwriters.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: I Heart Huckabees
Music: Currently and specifically, I am very enamored with Nneka and Mzungu Kichaa. Love all-female bands, post-punk, and punk rock. Also love dance music and pop.
Books: All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren. Lost in the Cosmos by Walker Percy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I got a chance to sing on stage with one of my most favorite bands. It kind of sparked a trend of good luck in my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I play bass, and can attempt to teach you my highly unorthodox self-taught style. Or we could jam together. I just discovered the secret to perfectly tasty pan-fried tofu and I definitely need to share that with the world.
