ABOUT ME

I'm a big traveler. I often find interesting ways to spend time as a nomad, often through random work contracts or some other excuse to get me to new places.

I love exploring cities and smaller towns from the perspective of people living there, while admittedly sometimes trying to see the important sites. I'm just as happy to a see a local band, take a hike up a mountain, or help make dinner. Where possible, I try to explore nature too.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm totally chill. I take things as they come, and deal from there. So far so good.

I've hosted a lot of surfers at my apartment in Montréal, and I've surfed a few couches on my travels. I've got a pretty good network of friends around the world whose sofas I've stayed on as well, even without using CS. I think everyone finds that I'm a good houseguest. And I've definitely been the one finding space in my home for friends or friends of friends who pass through. I like it.

兴趣

I like just roaming around cities, admiring the architecture, stopping in cafes, drinking beers or wine in little neighbourhood pubs. I love the layers of history present in the urban form.

The latest summer house mix is often playing in my apartment, or maybe it'll be classic American rock or contemporary québecois chanson. I'm also a sucker for downtempo, reggae, some dubstep and techno, and plenty of bluegrass. By all means, connect your bluetooth and share your music while you're here.

I saw the aurora borealis shimmering bright from the rooftop of my apartment in Montreal one freezing night.

I've exchanged howls with coyotes on cold desert nights.

I've canoed deep into the Canadian north and listened to loons under the stars by the warmth of campfires.

I trekked 60km through dense jungle in 48 hours, swimming the last kilometre or two through inundated forest.

I cycled the length of the Magdalene Islands archipelago in the Gulf of Saint-Lawrence.

I crossed Siberia in the dead of winter.

I've encountered mummies in situ inside remote Egyptian mountainsides.

I saw a million fireworks go off at once from a rooftop in central Beijing on the occasion of Chinese New Year (and my 35th birthday!).

I ziplined through the jungle in Laos, over beautiful waterfalls where I then swam and bouldered.

I participated in an ayahuasca ceremony with a shaman in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

I'm a carpenter. In my spare time at home I often build things from plywood - I'm skilled in the use of a wide variety of wood saws, and would be happy to help with a building project that's underway. I'd love to learn some welding!
