To live it up in Europe

ABOUT ME

I'm an outgoing, outdoorsy person who's always interested to meet new people to explore life with.

I just finished my degree (six years!) and am travelling around Europe for a couple of months before I start work at a consulting firm in Sydney in February.

In my past travels, I mainly pursued natural beauty and outdoors stuff, so being in Europe in winter is a new experience for me, and I'm hoping to get into the life and meet heaps of people!

PHILOSOPHY

When I was on university exchange in Berkeley, I overheard someone behind me telling his friend that over the weekend he hadn't understood the reading requirement for our history course and so had called the lecturer to ask if he had done enough or if more was needed. The lecturer responded `Hey, it's Saturday night, I'm drinking wine with my friends; don't sweat the small stuff!' and I found my new guiding light. Tolstoy is also cool.

I love to read and I'm really into mountain sports, particularly rock climbing. I'm also into travel (of course) and thinking and talking about political philosophy (I'm a Tony Judt inspired humanist social democrat).

I'm really into novels - I love magical realism (Murakami, Rushdie, Marquez, Bulgakov) and classic American lit. (Steinbeck, Hemingway, Fitzgerald), which I balance out with the occasional dose of bleak violence (McCarthy, Ellis) or a Russian epic (Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky)My music tastes are fairly haphazard - although I'm up for pretty much anything (other than Jay-z/Kanye) I always seem to come back to Muse, Gil Scott Heron, Antonin Dvorak and Bob Dylan. I'm also just now getting into the subtleties of electro and am very keen to delve deeper.As far as movies go, I'm a sucker for Woody Allen, Wes Anderson, the Coen brothers and Francis Ford Coppola and have recently had my mind blown by Drive, twice.

I reckon I can give a pretty good rundown on economics and politics that can go just about as esoteric as you'd like. I'm also very happy to introduce newcomers to rock-climbing. Most importantly though, I can make a rose out of a paper napkin.I'd love to learn how to do sleight of hand.
