About Me

Epilogue.
*Time-travelling:
Wow, since the last hosting on Couchsrufing 10 years past (2016!) and I feel like coming back again. It was funny to read my 12-year-old profile and observe, how much have changed since then, but also how some core things stayed. You are reading a fresh updated version of my profile!*

ABOUT ME

These days, everywhere I go, my sketchbook goes with me. (Don't expect me drawing your realistic portrait though, my work is more abstract and imaginative.) As a picture book author and illustrator, I gain inspiration from daily life experiences, which include a variety of things: from beautiful rocks, rain drops on my skin, cuddles with a dog to wonderful connections with human beings. I believe, that even short encounters influence our lives.
I have multiple shared stories in my life, when people who I met just shortly, left a big trace in my life. This could be us.

My biography is quite dynamic, starting my adolescense as a student of medical school, ending now, being an illustrator and picture book author. Who knows what comes next? It will definitely surprise myself and my loved ones. I do have quite some stories to tell, if it feels right.

I would describe myself as a curious human being, respecting other people and needing calmness in a daily life. Adventures are a source of the inspiration, but they don't have to be wild to be memorable. It is an adventure to me, to meet a person with a completely different path, who is willing to open up and connect. And it is beautiful!

My wild days are (with some exceptions) over, but I wish to keep the windows open to let wonders and adventures in. So yeah, try to imagine an adventurous creature with a slower obserwing path, still wondering about the surroudning world.

After years I realised, that I don't like to rush anymore - I prefer to take time. To take time to meet people, to discover new places, to make decisions... My travelling style changed quite a bit in the last 10 years, but the strong curiosity about other cultures, other peoples stories and places stays the same.

TRIGGER WARNING:
I am Ukrainian born and raised. Even though, I moved to Germany 13 years ago, my family is still there and the topic of the war is very sensitive to me. Please be kind.

Interests

in my free time I have to many options:
making ceramics, dancing contemporary, visiting art exhibitions, looking after other peoples dogs, practicing yoga, hiking in the wild, camping, brewing and drinking one of 100 of my teas, drawing, experimenting with new materials, going on silent walks, sharing and listening stories ...

Music, Movies, and Books

films:
I have a subscription to a indie-movies cinema in Berlin, so I am trying to stay up to date in the world of moving picture. Very much in love with silly dark comedies, dramas from 60s and 70s, slow mesmerizing documentaries, animated movies with surprising drawing style etc. I wouldn't be able to name a few of my favourite films, as the list will never be complete.

the shortened list of films, I watched multiple times:
Perfect days
Fifth Element
Sentimental Value
...

We can talk more about it in person :)

books, which left marks: (of course, incomplete as well)
Bunny by Mona Awad
Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami
Butter by Asako Yuzuki
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
...

music:
doesn't have to be rhytmic, doesn't have to be fast, doesn't have to be old...
my selection is very broad and mood-based, from experimental electronics, dark wave, noise to classical, folk music and alternative rock. Berlin spoiled me with an amazing art and music scene and all the events, you can daily attend and still have FOMO, missing something at a venue next door.

Teach, Learn, Share

Sharing time, attention, care and kindness is the most valuable you can do. I deeply appreciate when people let me in their spaces and open up. This is the most authentic experience you can get in a foreign country. I really enjoy sharing home cooked foods together, it is so moving and comforting.
