About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To boldly go where no one has gone before... or at least where I haven't gone before

ABOUT ME

I'm your average math geek, cinema buff, jazz lover. I'm basically up for anything.

I prefer walking and riding my bike to other forms of inner-city transport. As for long distances, if you say travelling, i hear "travelling by train".

I'm a quiet person, usually laid back, and will enjoy a good drink, an interesting chat and/or a card game as much as anything else. I've grown more and more open over the years to what people enjoy and what they do, so I'm willing to learn more of that!

PHILOSOPHY

I sincerely believe hell is made for people who made themselves happy by making other people unhappy: I also believe in enjoying what I do, and helping others enjoy what they do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

CS has given me much much more than I have given back! I have a hard time hosting people since my flatmate is not so open to the idea, but still, everywhere I go I try to meet new people, and try to give a little bit back, even if just a good joke, a fine talk, or a contact to meet in Buenos Aires.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have stayed in severall different places, and I've always had great experiences.

Interests

I have sudden spurts of reading, when I can spend days after days just reading...

I like writing and plotting the movies I will never direct, and I find fascinating anything and everything relating to the narrative of a story. I certainly like math (and physics and biology and Computer Science and...), games and silly wordplay. Music and Theatre come as a close second.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Most of Lynch [except for Wild at Heart], Cronenberg, Hitchcock. I can take a big mean machine murdering movie too, and enjoy it. My favourite films are [in no particular order]: Mulholland Drive, A boùt de souffle, Inland Empire, 2001: A Space Oddisey, An Orange Clockwork, Twelve Monkeys, Psycho, Takeshis, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, The Thousend Eyes of Dr. Mabuse [love those films], The Godfather, Solaris [the old Tarkovsky version], you get the idea.

Music: I like basic rock and roll, am a big Dylan fan and love Jazz, just freaks me out. Wynton Marsalis and Monk are my favourites. I find Morphine to be quite intriguing, and never seem to get tired of them playing the same song over and over again... The rest is a step down, i think. The usual stuff, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Morcheeba, Moby, Guns 'n Roses, Led Zeppelin, you fill it in...

Books: wooof, where do I start? I love Faulkner and Joyce, and my favourite modern writer is Ricardo Piglia, from argentina. More? Paul Auster, Borges, Kafka, Chandler are really up there. I also enjoy reading Asimov, Tolkien, AC Clarke, SF & F... In no particular order: El Aleph and Ficciones, Gödel sScher and Bach, The Wild Palms, Light in August, La Ciudad Ausente, Gravity's Rainbow [I'll finish it someday!], Conversación en la Catedral [best Latin American novel... ever!], The Big Sleep,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

That AWESOME xenote. Six meters down a winding staircase, each one going "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW" when we got down...

I can't swim, but I wasn't going to miss THAT!

Teach, Learn, Share

Well... I'm a mathematician by profession, so I can show you how to say lots of things that sound really bombastic and have no useful application whatsoever. On a more practical level, I make good omelettes, smell cinnamon from afar and I'm good with logic. So if you want to know how to solve a Sudoku, how to rearrange stuff or take logics to the absurd extreme, I'm your man. Also I like to write and I read a lot, so you can practice your spanish or english with me, write absurd comedies or make a plan for the future plot of a future common narrative project. I also amass lots of strange facts, so maybe I know that one fact you always wondered about, but I make no guarantees.

Special points to anyone who can teach me how to swim!
