Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

One of my most memorable couch surfing experiences was coming back from Tennessee. I emailed a whole bunch of community living / eco-village peeps asking if they had anywhere where my friends and i could sleep on the way back and we ended up hooking up with the most amazing woman in Cincinnati. Her kids had just left for university so we slept in their rooms and she treated us just like her own. She made us breakfast in the morning and we stayed up all night talking to her about all the different projects she was involved in and learning a little bit about what activism was like where she lived. What a wonderful experience!

Interests

I am interested in drug policy, geopolitics and aboriginal rights. I also like to play the Ukelele!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like media more than I like books. I love TED talks, community radio, podcasts and new ways of consuming news like Flipboard. I am a Tumblr addict: ddubb.org

Movies: Mondo Cane, Holy Mountain, Y Tu Mama Tambien, White Elephant, Science of Sleep, Adventures of Baron Munchausen, etc.

TV: True Blood, Weeds, Girls, How to Make it in America, Breaking Bad, Sarah Silverman Program, Skins, Game of Thrones. Sometimes I like to watch shitty TV like Gossip Girl or Jersey Shore.

Music: Jesse Boykins III, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, A Tribe Called Red, A-Trak, Airplane Boys, Flying Lotus, Star Slinger, Daedelus, Mimosa, Hudson Mohawk, SBTRKT, Toro Y Moi, Katy B, LAL, City in Colour, James Blake, Bon Iver, Javelin, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Stayed on an island in Kuna Yala with an indigenous family, snorkelled every day. Lived in rural Mexico, danced banda in ferias drinking tequila out of plastic cups. Ran through fields of grapes in Tuscany as a young teen taking selfies with my little sister. Hitch hiked and train hopped across the west coast, only to years later drive the same trip in a red mustang convertible.
