About Me

Born in Montreal and raised on its South shore, life gave me the chance to have parents who brought me abroad at an early age.

I have many intellectual abilities and some particular areas of interests. My true friends share this profile and are from all over the world. I need to be stimulated by learning new things everyday.

I am confident about the future. I am never angry nor sad but, sometimes, just too passionate! Also, I love Quebec and I have the impression to embody the values of my country such as collective harmony, equality between men and women, national pride and language resistance.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I have been giving and never expecting anything in return all my life. Since I think that hosting and being received in people's places is perfectly normal, no matter what culture you belong to, I naturally joined Couchsurfing.

Regarding male members who use it for hookups, further discouraging female members to host or receive, I think people with these intentions should not use CS and negative references should be written when a host expects it from his guest.

However, the benefits of CS, in my opinion, largely surpass its risks. For instance, I have discovered my own city by hosting couchsurfers, I visited some of them back in their homeland, I met people that resembled me simply because I received them/or visited them in the context of holidays, they/I chose them among various profiles and it is a context that facilitates opening up.

I could certainly afford hostels but I prefer to use CS and transfer this money on transport to make more travels since it will count more in the end.

Sports: Bicycling, swimming, running, hockey, skiing, scuba diving, climbing and making human towers.

Culture: History, geopolitics, watching documentaries, learning foreign languages. My curiosity has no limit and general culture is SO important that it is an end in itself!

One Amazing Thing I've Done

-Spend Christmas in the family of a French couchsurfer (whom I hosted in Montreal during Summer) while she spent Christmas in my family so that none of us felt lonely studying abroad in each other's country;
-Going from Montreal to Quebec City 3 times by bicycle in winter!;
-Visiting each 18 Quebec regions and 10 Canadian provinces at least once;
-Running for the Green Party of Quebec during the 2008 Quebec general elections at 18 years old.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am willful to share my perpectives on my background but also a whole range of domains that I have an emotional connection to and forged my understanding the world: history and politics especially, psychology, environment, philosophy, ethics, sociology, anthropology and anything that would stimulate me intellectually or simply funny!

I don't like unnecessary small talk, jetset, superficial stuff and talking about the weather for more than 5 minutes. People judging others on their appearance, social status or choices in life are a definite turn off. Vulgarity, for me, is not coarse words, but shallow thinking.

What I Can Share With Hosts

Before you couchsurf to my place, be sure to have a positive state of mind (état d'esprit) in an appropriate situation:

- You are excited to discover this new place;

- You already know this place, but you are excited about a particular event;

- You don't really know what to expect, but you are confident that I will make you discover something;

- If you have limited time (like you arrive at 2 am, sleep 3 hours to catch the train at 6:30 am), It's ok for me! Be sure to do internet/trip planning/shower before or after for us to spend your limited time together.

- You read my profile and for some reason, you want to meet me!

What is not ok, though, is the following:

- You come "just to have a little fun" (i.e. getting drunk &/or explicit sexual encounters) to forget about your miserable life or some recent bad lucks. When I can host, my needs are not necessarily yours. Don't arrive vulnerable!;

- You are a fusional couple and you give no attention to the host. If you enjoy privacy more than spending time with the host, then look for an hotel!;

- You have any kind of negative energy. If I have to cancel for some reason, I will tell you in advance. If you start insulting me, this will lead to a negative reference.

For my hosts, I will always take care about bringing a little something and have the same positive energy and open-mindedness that I expect from my guests.
