About Me

I just recently graduated from university in the spring and now embarking on a work, then travel, hopefully less work, than more travel, kind of rotation. I'm very outdoorsy, at home I do lots of hiking, camping, paddle boarding etc, all of the above with my dog so am also a huge animal lover. Other interests include craft beer, and food, or finding the best coffee place in town. When I travel I try to get off the beaten path a little bit and love finding secluded nature spots or small cafe's. I also love live music in a small setting - one of my best memories from Thailand was finding a small bar which had one mic and a guy playing guitar. By the end of the night the whole bar was on the floor dancing and singing like we'd known each other for years rather than just one night.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm new to this, but as I am going on my first big trip I want to do it right and I believe the best way to see a city or place is through the eyes of someone who actually lives there. A community of people who believe in sharing common interests and stories or in trying something new is a wonderful thing and something I'm excited to be apart of. Unfortunately at this time I'm unable to host people but I hope in the future I will be in a place that better allows me to do so.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music contains a fair share of country music (Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, Kip Moore) but also equal parts classic, alternative and indie rock (Tom Petty, The Glorious Sons, Arkells, Vance Joys, Matt Mays, NEEDTOBREATHE, Lumineers, Alt-J to name a few) with the odd pop song mixed in there as well.

Movies (off the top of my head) - The Kingsman, Zootopia, Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars, Inception, Gone Girl, Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids, Mystery Alaska, Grease, Austin Powers, Hidalgo, Deadpool, Easy A, Fight Club
TV shows I also enjoy - Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Brooklyn 99, Hannibal, OITNB
And I love a good comedy special (Chris Delia anyone??)

Books (here we go) - 1Q84, The Martian, I am Malala, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Chaos Walking, The Girl on the Train, The Rosie Project, To Kill a Mockingbird, Eleanor and Park, The Son, The Black Stallion, Milk and Honey, An Ember in the Ashes (and the list goes on)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Surviving treeplanting as an occupation - after graduation I made the decision to spend three months living in a tent in the North BC and Alberta bush working 10h days in the rain, hail and lightning or on the other end of the spectrum, scorching heat and torturous flies. It was one of the best and worst experiences of my entire life but I finished my summer knowing I had earned every single penny that I made as well as made some friendships that are going to last a life time (that tends to happen when you find yourself (on numerous occasions) hiding under a tarp in a torrential downpour with said persons.) The treeplanting community is one similar to this, everyone is open and caring and believes in giving what they can, and sharing what they can't.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Not as well traveled as I'd like to be yet, but I've definitely got a story or two to share and I'd love to hear about your adventures and mishaps alike. I also make for an excellent hiking buddy, pub hopping buddy, sit and drink wine buddy, or cup of coffee buddy.
