About Me

Hi, my name is Rachel! I live in an amazing city in North Carolina close to my family with my partner and dog. I graduated college about a year and a half ago and started to teach high school Spanish. I absolutely love my job and interacting with the students. Plus, I get summers off for travel! My partner and I just bought some land beside Pisgah National Forest, and so right now we are living with family while we save money to build a house--which means right now I can't host but I will have a beautiful place to host in about 2 years!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My main reason for being on Couchsurfing is so that I have the opportunity to connect with people when Nick and I travel. I think the best way to see a place is with someone who actually lives there.

I'd also love to meet up with people visiting my city. I really love Asheville and know a lot about it, and I enjoy seeing others enjoy it as much as I do!

Interests

I'm really passionate about my career and am always looking into better ways to teach and ways I can improve my Spanish. Outside of work, I like to cook and eat at interesting restaurants (I don't think there's any food I'm not willing to try!). I like to go hiking and spend time outside, especially with my dog. His name is Oso and he's 11 pounds of pure cuteness. As you probably know from the fact that I have a Couchsurfing account, I love to travel. Lately I'm interested in the idea of homesteading--when we build our own house I want a garden, chickens, and some goats!

Music, Movies, and Books

It's difficult to narrow down my favorite music! My ultimate favorite artist is Ani DiFranco. I love listening to the Avett Brothers and my guilty pleasure is Taylor Swift.

I haven't watched too many movies lately--they always seem like such a time commitment! Some of my favorites are Garden State, TiMER, and Forrest Gump.

It's such a joy to escape in a good book. I grew up loving the Harry Potter series. One of my favorite authors is John Green. The most recent book I read and loved was Wild by Cheryl Strayed.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to Rapa Nui (Easter Island) was a really neat experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you are visiting Asheville and want to know about some history, I'm your gal. I'm kind of a local history nerd! I know many different parts of town having grown up in East Asheville, but also living in South Asheville and North Asheville. And I even frequent the West for all the awesome restaurants!

I'm not one that goes out to bars to get drunk or party, but I can share a great craft brew and point you in the direction of some awesome food.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm open-minded and would really love to just learn as much as I can from hosts. I'd really love to meet someone that I make a connection with where we can both share. I'm not much of a partier and tend to go to sleep and wake up early, so hopefully I can find hosts that fit that lifestyle as well.
