Mom of two, avid traveller, child of God, lover of humanity. I am a widowed single mom. I have a seven year old daughter (Evie) and an eight year old son (Jude).

We have been airbnbing for several years now, but are new to the couch surfing world. We live in an extremely community-focused neighborhood in Atlanta, and after meeting several couch surfers who were visiting with neighbors, I new I wanted to be a part of this community.

We are a pretty laid-back family who loves to see new places and make new friends. We're pretty chatty and have never met a stranger. Our family mission is simply "Be Kind." When I started working on something more in depth, we landed on "Be Kind" and pretty much stopped there, because from our perspective, that about covers everything. We don't always succeed, but we have never looked back on an experience and wished that we had been less kind. We find that choosing and practicing kindness has an amazing effect on the world around us and our experience in it. Looking forward to traveling and making new friends the couch-surfing way!

We've met several couchsurfers through our neighbors and they seem to be the coolest folks. The entire idea of couchsurfing aligns with our worldview, and we just knew that we wanted to be a part of this community. Our family mission is to be kind, predicated on the premise that the majority of the world is filled with good and decent people. We've found our experiences to be more than true. What an amazing way to travel and expand our experience of who our neighbors truly are.

I kicked ass and took names as I helped my husband fight cancer for two and a half years. It was the hardest thing either of us had ever done; incredibly exhausting, difficult, scary, and life-changing. God told an amazing story that took us all over the United States for treatment, making new friends and depending on the kindness of strangers everywhere we went.

It was through that experience, where we were supported and cared for in every imaginable way that we both became utterly convinced that people are the most amazing, powerful, beautiful, kind, and loving things that God has ever created. And that to love other people, unconditionally and with abandon, is to truly see the face of God.

Right before Kevin passed away on Christmas Eve 2013, he told me, "Rae, you did it. You fulfilled your marriage vows... in sickness and in health, till death do us part. This chapter may be ending, but don't forget to make the next ones just as amazing. "
