Currently a bit of a nomad, I’ve been moving around a lot the past few years with the goal of learning from new cultures and developing new skills. I follow my interests to see where they take me. I’m now in the Chicago area but have recently stayed in Boston, Spain, and South Korea within the past year.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I especially like historical fiction. I like learning about history but learn best when the facts are put in the context of a story. The story piques my interest and later I always end up doing a lot of research about what really happened in history and learn a lot that way.
I also like sci-fi. If you do too, read The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell.

Music: wide variety of interests here. I like music with a strong instrumental presence. I use music to supplement my language learning, so I listen to Latino hits and Korean Indie/R&B

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While living in South Korea, 2 friends and I decided to take a bike trip across the country, from north to south. It’s not a big country, so it only took us 5 days, but within that time I was able to see and learn so much. I was struck by people’s hospitality that took us in; hostel owners cooking full meals for us and being genuinely interested in our lives and backgrounds, and being patient with our limited Korean skills. I learned a lot about rural Korea and was able to appreciate the natural beauty of the country outside of city life.

Teach, Learn, Share

After I graduated college, I realized that I had been taking my learning for granted. Outside of school, you have no explicit teachers anymore, only the ones you choose to find or create. If you want to keep learning or growing, you have to take on that responsibility yourself. I have a growth-mindset. I always want to improve myself and anything I’m involved in. Since college graduation, I’ve taken my growth into my own hands and made it my mission to learn as much as possible from my surroundings and to leave a positive impact wherever I go.
