About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To possibly host lone travallers for short periods of time (2-4 days) - I'd love to host longer, but I have roommates - and mainly to create ties with people all over the world.

ABOUT ME

I moved from Rio to Curitiba this year and am looking to make new ties across the globe.

I live in a super-central area of Curitiba, great for getting about on foot or by bus. The city has great parks and a really significant cultural scene, so if you're moving about the Brazilian south it really warrants a visit!

PHILOSOPHY

the reward to being kind is that you got a chance to be kind.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment, I'm a complete noobie.

I plan to help out around any house I stay in, and if I cannot host, I'd be happy to show surfers around town on weekends.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed in Porto Alegre and Buenos Aires through couchsurfing, and will soon host a surfer in Rio.

Interests

Movies! I'm a big moviegoer and like to go to small/arthouse theaters when I travel. I think it gives me a really local taste.

Literature: both reading and writing (or trying to...). I publish my shortstories in Portuguese at facebook.com/cartaconto. The concept is that people ask me for a word and I mail them a handwritten short story that I then publish onthe fb page.

Walking around town.

Parks.

Learning to get by on a meat-free diet (just incurred into vegetariasm this year).

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
Any Rober Altman movie is good, even the bad ones, in my humble opinion.
Last great movie I saw: Relatos Selvajes (2014, Argentina)

Music:
ALL TYPES! indie rock, trip-hop, samba, regional brazilian music, "viola caipira", the occasional bubblegum pop radio hit... tons!
Current obssessions (Nov 2014): FKA Twigs, Wanda Jackson, and all the great stuff that's been around the Brazilian indie scene for the last 5 years: Johnny hooker, Apanhador Só, O Terno, Baleia...

Books:
I'll admit it: I'm a huge Harry Potter fan.
I'm also trying to read up on Brazilian History more.
For poetry, Tomas Tranströmer does the trick. Read him before falling asleep and you'll see what is does to your subconscious.
Last great book I read: 2666 (Roberto Bolaño). Over 3 months to work through it, but worth it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Dunno, really! Think I still have do them.

Teach, Learn, Share

Aaah, what can i teach? I definetely have more to learn then to teach.

Here are some things I've learned over the course of 2014 while living in a new city:

- people will warm up to a smile no matter how tough they look

- free time is perhaps the single biggest luxury one can have. If you lose money, you can get it back, but you CANNOT get time back.

- it is essential to work with something that brings staisfaction to you, maybe even more than a good paycheck (not to underestimate the importance of money, of course - this is assuming you have enough to support yourself.)

- age is not, or should not, be relevant

- being happy is a talent, a decision, an intent, not the accidental fruit of great fortune.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Mediocre attempts at vegetarian cooking!

Extreme curiosity about the ins and outs of your language/accent.

Help around the house: doing dishes, sweeping, or lending a hand with anything you need.

Help with English: I'm a teacher and will gladly speak only English with you even if you are also Brazilian and want to get some practice in.
