About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To tell my grandkids excellent adventure stories someday.

ABOUT ME

I am a prescribed fire technician with The Nature Conservancy in Alabama. We use fire to restore longleaf pine habitat and benefit wildlife species in the southeast.

I move around a lot working in wildlife/habitat conservation, but I also move around a lot as an unemployed bum. For now, I'm in Alabama. I'm ridiculous in a good way. Making people laugh is one of my favorite things!

I love adventure, talking to strangers, exploring new places, music, drum circles, 80s night, hitch hiking, anti-civ literature, family, rodeo dances, crafting, beans and rice. That's the short list.

PHILOSOPHY

There is travel and there are babies. Everything else is drudgery and death. - Dave Eggers

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed and hosted - most were awesome experiences. The rest were great learning experiences about how to deal with strangers who have lodging expectations you can't always meet.

Music, Movies, and Books

East of Eden, Suttree, No Country for Old Men, The Alchemist, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, 9 Stories

Don't even get me started on music! If you are a music fan, I'll bring my hard drive and we can arrange a music trade. I have a little bit of everything from Nigerian pop music to Bob Wills Texas swing, but the majority is hipster trash (if you like KEXP, you'll love my collection).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived on two different remote Hawaiian islands 950 miles northwest of Oahu. I literally only interacted with one other human being for 4 months. It was Castaway, but real life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a thing or two about: horses, nature, backpacking gear, growing things

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a great baker! I also have great taste in beer and can bring a sixer or growler to share.

Countries I’ve Visited

Costa Rica, Equatorial Guinea, Mexico

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
