About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Embrace the twists and turns of life and enjoy the ride.

ABOUT ME

I’m a lifestyle and portrait photographer who has made Costa Rica home for the past 9 years (2016). Travel has always been a big part of my life, although since I moved to Costa Rica that has slowed down a little. I want to start adventuring again and discovering more beautiful and breathtaking places around the world. Photography has shifted from a hobbie to a career and it brings me so much join to connect with people, places, and stories. I love capturing moments that feel real.

Guanacaste is a wonderful area of Costa Rica and it is quite special to share the energy and slower pace of life here with others.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll usually find me in the ocean, exploring nature, or planning my next adventure that brings together my love for travel and photography.

PHILOSOPHY

Stay curious. Be kind. Find the beauty in everyday life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't been active for a while but I want all that to change. So hit me up and let's see how I can help.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Wellington New Zealand, Christchurch New Zealand, Sydney Australia, Byron Bay Australia, Hawaii USA, Rio de Janeiro Brazil and Buenos Aires Argentina.

Everytime was different and everytime was great. I got to know awesome people who let me into their lives and it was a very special experience :D

Interests

I’ve always been into sports, but surfing has become one of the big ones since moving to Costa Rica. I also love playing volleyball, especially on the beach.

I studied hospitality management and I’m always up for a good meal, whether it’s something homemade or discovering a new spot. Food is definitely one of the best ways to connect.

I work as a freelance photographer, focusing on lifestyle and portrait photography. If you’re curious, feel free to check out my instagram @rachaelk8 and I am always interested in combining travel & photography.

I also love dancing salsa. I learned on the streets of Costa Rica, so while my technique might not impress a teacher, I promise it’s fun and full of energy.

Music, Movies, and Books

My taste in music is pretty open. What I listen to depends a lot on my mood, and I enjoy discovering new sounds through the people I meet.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I actually ran the New York Marathon with some friends and that was a pretty special experience.
I became a divemaster in Costa Rica and being underwater is always the most amazing feeling.
I moved to a foreign country on my own and have now lived here (Costa Rica) for the past 9 years.
