Overview
About Me
I'm a Kiwi transplant to Juneau, where I'm living with my wife, whom I met while travelling South America. I came here via working and travelling overseas in various countries for the last 10 years. I've made that possible by mainly working in tourism. Jobs have included Raft Guide, Glacier Guide, and Hiking Camping Guide.
I enjoy almost all outdoor pursuits, especially hiking and rock climbing, but I'm willing to try almost anything once, and I'm about to finally get into the exciting new world of SCUBA. This year I've also taken up fly fishing-reasonably unsuccessfully so far.
I also enjoy having fun, meeting people, and trying to make the world a better place. Travel has opened my eyes to the problems that the world faces. I believe a lot of these would be solved just through more understanding and less prejudices. Travel can help with this, though it also must be done with respect for the various cultures and landscapes that one encounters.
Currently I'm waiting on my working permit. Meanwhile I'm perfecting my cleaning and cooking skills as a domestic god, and getting out into the beautiful surrounding's of South East Alaska.
My next goal is to transition from tourism into outdoor education and/or environmental education.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While they haven't come by way of couch surfing.org, I've definitely slept on a few couches in my travels.
Now I'm a bit more settled down I'm willing to repay the favour up here in Juneau Alaska.
Interests
I've always loved the outdoors, and get out hiking whenever the weather and time permits. Rock climbing is a favourite of mine. I'm also getting more and more into mountaineering, and having Mendenhall Glacier next door means I can easily improve my ice climbing skills too.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like all three.
Rock would be my favourite genre for music but I listen to a wide range of music, including Katy Perry-but only when my wife makes me.
Movies, there's not much I won't watch.
I'll read almost anything, but my favourite book genre to settle down with on a cold rainy night is historical fiction. Love me some history.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Just one? OK-I'll go with getting married to my amazing wife Yvonne. In Vegas. By Elvis. It was so much fun!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can spin a basketball on my finger. Don't really know if anyone wants or needs to learn that though. I am a certified snowboard instructor, I can talk about rock climbing gear all day, and I know a whole lot about cane toads.
