About Me

CURRENT MISSION

my current mission is to pursue the life and lifestyle that i have always wanted: to surround myself with inspiration and creativity, and to make a living drawing, painting, writing, and creating.

ABOUT ME

born and raised in boyle heights, i still live in the small apartment building in which i was raised and that is owned by my family, i moved to huntington beach for a couple of years while in college, moved into my own apartment when i moved back, now i share it with my girlfriend who is a biology student at calstate los angeles.

i spend my time creating artwork for random projects, including: murals, concept illustration, t-shirt and apparel graphics, private commissions, etc. i also substitute teach from time to time.

PHILOSOPHY

"don't give up. don't ever give up."- jimmy v.

having spent a few years after graduation at a dead-end job that i hated, i'm grateful to have rediscovered my passion for art and creativity. i lost sight of my goals for a while there, and now i remind myself everyday that the life i want is mine to make. my main struggle nowadays is to not let myself get bogged down and distracted by things that don't really matter, to keep sight of the bigger picture and to do what makes me happy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i'm very new to CS, though my girlfriend and i have discussed it and we'd love to host early next year when we're both done with our travels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i surfed a lot of couches while in college, and i have to say that i made life-long friends during that time. it was a very nomadic time for me, as i was living in east l.a., working in orange county, and attending class in laguna beach. there's no way i'd have survived without the generosity of friends and sometimes strangers.

Interests

i love cooking (especially bbqing), watching good movies, watching and playing sports, listening to and playing music, reading, and of course painting and drawing.

Music, Movies, and Books

movies: wow. too many to list. top 5: fight club, the graduate, last of the mohicans, cast away, children of men

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

one amazing thing i've seen in my lifetime is a woman devoting her entire life to her family; raising, caring for, and sacrificing for her husband, children, siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, etc. so that they may be smart, capable, responsible, and loving human beings. (that person being my grandmother, Francisca Vargas.)

Teach, Learn, Share

i'd love to share recipes and cooking techniques, and i'd love to learn more about what it takes to make a film.
