About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see as much of the best of Latin America in 4.5 months. A mix of gringo favourites, tours, and random adventures, all while trying to learn Spanish and meet new friends along the way.

ABOUT ME

I am a tall, Chinese-Canadian female who snowboards, surfs, rock climbs and bakes the best chocolate chip cookies you will ever have. I travel often, speak Cantonese and a bit of Mandarin and hope to learn Spanish by the end of my trip.

I´m interested in seeing great places, trying all kinds of food, and meeting people who can help me figure ou what to do beyond the guidebook recommendations.

PHILOSOPHY

Based on my tattoo idea of the plus symbol: Keep your health in mind, stay positive, always meet new people, try and learn new things, and go to new places. Being alive is a wonderful thing - don´t take it for granted!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I met an Australian who was on a RTW trip during their visit to Toronto last year, and it showed me how much Couchsurfing can really enhance someone´s experience of a city. Despite not being his original host, I ended up showing them around the next day and eventually travelling with them to New York the following week.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going through the Sun Gate at Macchu Picchu last week after hiking the Inca Trail and then wandering around the park for five hours was one of the best things I´ve done, especially since it was with a great friend I made during the four-day trek.

Teach, Learn, Share

Tips for doing the Inca Trail in rainy season:
-bring waterproof pants, a waterproof jacket, a poncho, pack covers and lots of plastic bags.
-get a headlamp instead of a regular flashlight
-bring an entire roll of toilet paper, but without the center roll.
-rent two (2) lightweight anti-shock walking sticks in Cusco. You should only pay 15 soles for 4-5 days.
-Bring a small refillable bottle for sunscreen for your daypack. Carry lip balm with at least SPF 18.
-Bring lots of layers. Thermals, a good fleece jacket, and a pair of warm wool socks.
-Alpaca gloves, hats and scarfs can be purchased inexpensively in small towns around Cusco during Sacred Valley tours. Buy a set for the Inca Trail and extras as gifts.
-Bring a travel pillow and earplugs. Rain and thunder can be pretty loud at night.
-Wear quick-drying pants.
-Hire a porter.
-Gore-Tex hiking shoes will eventually fail after 3 hours of rain, but they are much better than regular trainers.
-Finally, going slow and steady is the best way to finish strong.
