About Me

I am perpetually on the move, running my own tour guiding service: Todd's Fantastic Adventures! Next trip is to S Korea at the end of March 2025. I also recently started an A.I. and Automation consulting agency with a good friend, and I plan to work remotely while I largely spend my time out of the US over the next 4 years.

The first business I started on my own was Immersionz, "VR Where You Are," with which I brought a highly customized mobile virtual reality rig to parties and events. I was never much of a gamer (I only play backgammon), but armed with my extensively curated VR menu, I thoroughly enjoyed introducing people already (responsibly) on drugs to, let's call them, technologically-enhanced immersive experiences. 😁

I am an adventurer by vocation and avocation. I have explored all 50 US states, many of them by motorcycle (as some of my older pictures show). I followed my bliss to the incredible beauty and culture of Colorado, where I have made my home since late 2013 and found purposeful work that I love as a Denver-based tour guide from 2016-2019 -- driving a packed Mercedes sprinter van on day trips into Rocky Mountain National Park, or blowing the minds of flatlanders on trips to the 14,000ft+ summits of Pikes Peak or Mt Evans, and never once receiving less than a 5-star review. 🤠

I earn my ticket to Burning Man as a Black Rock Ranger (Ranger Fantastic): navigating the edge of chaos, always there to help, disappearing into the dust when no longer needed. Leave me a message at HQ if you're on playa! )'(

I had only skied once in my life when I first moved to Ski Country USA, Colorado, so I packed up my new life in Boulder and moved to Durango, where I had never been before, and got a job as a lift operator at Purgatory, one of only two CO ski resorts that allows lifties to ski on the clock. I skied at the very least 2 runs on 100+ days that Winter; from zero (greens) to hero (double black diamonds) in one season.
After that, I went on my first whitewater rafting trip (Browns Canyon) that a friend guided in 2014; we got drunk, flipped, and I got chundered in a massive standing wave.
Awestruck and overwhelmed by the raw power of rapids, the following year I spent two weeks training in the cold and snow, in May at 8000ft, and became a professional whitewater raft guide, living in a tent in the Rockies for three months, spending every day on the Arkansas River. I've paddled through the incredible Class IV Royal Gorge nearly 30 times, capping my first season with a wild trip down Class V Gore Canyon. I've now rafted on 5 continents and try to include it in every one of my bespoke professional tours.
I believe in pursuing your passions, jumping off of cliffs and growing your wings on the way down.

I gravitate toward buddhist/taoist principles of adaptability and non-attachment, equanimity, authenticity and simplicity. With a lot of hard-won experience and time spent alone (including tens of thousands of miles riding cross-continent on a motorcycle), I've come to believe that a life well-lived is a life well-shared and that most any problem can be better (more usefully) seen as a challenge and opportunity. So long you're always learning, you're always winning.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to leave every place I visit better off than how I found it. Whether this means taking my host(s) out for a meal or drinks, or doing the dishes or some other chores, I am more than happy to offer my time and good will to the kind and wonderful souls of the CS community -- who have generously offered me so much in my wide travels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Too much to mention! I traveled up and down the eastern US on my motorcycle for months during 2010-2011, using mostly CS, then around the Western states in 2011, and then around the Great Lakes and New England in 2012, having MANY amazing experiences and meeting MANY absolutely unforgettable people that I hope to see again someday. My most recent surfs were when I first moved to Boulder, CO in 2013, to Durango, CO in 2014, when visiting Fort Collins in 2015 and North Dakota in 2016. I also surfed (with my girlfriend) in Auckland while living and traveling in a van in New Zealand for 2/3 months in 2019, and in Sao Paulo, Brazil after visiting my eldest brother, who lives in Rio, for Carnaval in 2024.

I usually tell people that couchsurfing has changed my life for the better in more ways than I can explain.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Skinny-dipped (with my then-girlfriend and best friend) in a mountaintop lake in NW Georgia, under a full moon in a clear sky, and howled our hearts out. (2009)

Stepped out into the night, after dancing and drumming at a full moon gathering at Alex Grey's Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (Wappinger's Falls, NY), to the sight of an enormous, full moon moonbow. (2010)

Started the very first mosh pit in the then-37 year history of Austin City Limits to the taping of Flogging Molly! (as I was told afterward by a show producer) (2011)

Summited 9 Colorado fourteeners so far, in 11 attempts, and nearly died in a lightning storm attempting to summit Class III on Longs Peak, while above 13,500ft, which was also my second date with my partner of approaching 11 years. Whoops!

BURNING MAN (i.e., Home 💛) 2011, '12, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '19, '22, '23 and '24, where I've served as a Black Rock Ranger for 8 years, 5 as a Green Dot 🟢 Ranger. I like to say, unless I'm dead or in prison (and likely also if I'm dead), I'll be at the Burn.
