My name is Raven and I am from rural Manitoba where my partner Jonah and I live on a farm. We have a seven month old daughter named Asha. We have some farm animals, a large garden and a very friendly cat. I enjoy being outdoors and getting to know / learn from other people. We are very family oriented and try to spend a lot of time with my parents and grandparents. We believe that inter-generational relationships are important and look forward to meeting people from all walks of life. I am a teacher at the local school.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couch surfing to experience travel in a more meaningful way. I find that travelling is best remembered for the people that you meet, rather than the places that you go. When you can stay with people who are willing to open up their home to you, it is a completely different experience than staying in a hotel/hostel/etc. I have had a great experience couch surfing so far!

Interests

I enjoy camping, canoeing, hiking, cooking, walking, practicing French, reading, and generally being outside!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most meaningful decisions I ever made was to work at summer camp in my early adult life. It is there that I made many incredible friendships (and also met Jonah!). At summer camp I learned to appreciate the natural world and have carried that with me as I have gone forward in life.

Jonah and I often talk about the unjust systems in place in our society, and we try to live in ways that are meaningful. We strongly believe in caring for the earth and that manifests itself in composting, growing food, preparing meals, connecting with community and trying to make our own things or get them secondhand. We would love to hear about your philosophy of life and why you live the way that you live!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Homegrown food, good meals, a swimming pond (in summer), a variety of animals to visit, a tour of southern Manitoba, a great road for walks, an amazing view of the prairies, a cat to hang out with, a large yard to explore!
