walking in the mountains of west China for 5.5 hours off the nearest road, in order to meet the family of an English teacher I met that morning. apparently I was the surprise, as her family never seen foreigners before. they gave me the full ceremony, including a pig and a chicken slaughter (that I tried to prevent, unsuccessfully.)
