About Me
CURRENT MISSION
My mission is to travel Quebec and become fluent in French.
ABOUT ME
My friends would probably say that I am ambitious, or motivated. I like to get out there and try new things. I'm also very kind and warm-hearted. I really like people, meeting new people and caring about others. I read a lot and enjoy intellectual conversation. I am definitely a nerd, especially when it comes to anything political.
PHILOSOPHY
Hmm... a tough one! I think it is important to be genuine and be one's self. It makes for better relationships in all parts of one's life and it's always cool to meet someone who is really comfortable in their own skin. I have read and thought about philosophy by Cornel West. He talks about the difference between optimism, pessimism, and hope. Instead of being naively optimistic, or resigned and pessimistic, being hopeful is about acknowledging things that may not be so great yet still believing that they can be better. I always try to be hopeful in this way.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have just joined as I would like to couch surf on my upcoming trip, but I am open to hosting as well.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have never couch surfed! However, my friends have great things to say, so I am giving it a try.
Interests
In many ways I am typical Vancouverite. I do yoga, love sushi, and all that. I actually like the rain! I work in health care and it's very important to me. Other than work, I am involved in politics. My community garden also takes up a lot of my time, but that's good! I'm learning French.

Music, Movies, and Books
I read mostly non-fiction. I am trying to get more into fiction as I always like it when someone else recommends a book for me.
As for music, I like indie music, but also pop music and rock from the 90s.
I like many different types of movies, any movie with a message. I think that a film is a really cool way to get one's point across, so I like the medium as much as the content.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I am awestruck every time that I ride the ferry between Victoria and Vancouver. The gulf islands are so beautiful and it never gets old.
The West coast of Vancouver Island is also very cool, near Tofino. I was amazed to look out at the horizon and see nothing but the horizon.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can talk non-stop about politics and health care.
I studied microbiology in my undergrad and have somehow retained neat knowledge about the immune system and viruses. :)
I like to cook and I think I'm not bad at it.
I would like to learn about what it is like to live in other countries as I have not left Canada very many times.
I like to hear stories about living through significant historical events.
