About Me

I just finished a degree in philosophy and decided to travel on my own as a way to challenge myself, open my mind, and help me reflect on my future career. Traveling is what I love best, and I've spent the past 6 months backpacking through India, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, and Laos. I try to do things that stretch my comfort zone, like visiting remote villages or going on difficult treks.

My current life plan is to go back to school and teach philosophy at a university level, but I'm also passionate about social justice and am determined to maintain some element of public service in whatever work I do. If philosophy doesn't work out, I'd like to open a book store.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My favorite part of traveling is getting to know the locals. There is no better way to grasp the culture of a place. I am new to Couchsurfing, but I look forward to meeting people from across the globe, sharing stories, and listening to their perspectives.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love classical music, especially Chopin. I grew up playing classical piano so it has a special place in my heart.

My favorite books are the 19th century classics (yes, I like the 19th century). I like Russian literature best because it digs so deeply into the human psyche; Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment is my favorite book.

My favorite recent movie is Birdman. The more artistic the movie, the better.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing Mt. Everest at sunrise. It was during my first ever multi-day trek and I was quite anxious when I signed up. But it was well worth it. In addition to being beautiful, it showed me I have a love for trekking and has inspired me to do at least one trek in each country I visit.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm most excited to learn from other people's cultures and to share stories about my own. I'm always curious to talk about the aspects of our societies that are diferent--like foods, leisure activities, and social norms and values--while also exploring our fundamental similarities as human beings.
