About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet some awesome people to help make this summer the best yet.

ABOUT ME

I have just started on here, so please excuse the absence of references and such.
I actually live in College Park which is about a 20 minutes metro ride to DC. The metro station is about a 5 minute walk from my door so it's super easy. I live in a cooperative house which just means we do things collectively like cooking and cleaning and love to hang out with each other. Vegetarian, vegan, gay, everything is welcome.

PHILOSOPHY

Trying to make my life a little more interesting

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A couple of months ago my roommate suggested we start hosting couch surfers to make our lives more interesting and I excitedly agreed. We hosted as many people as we could until finals started killing us but I always took a back seat to the whole operation. She had the account and I would just hang out with them as much as possible.
Since then, I have moved into another house (sad to leave her) and decided it was time to finally make my own profile! Because I'm a broke college kid I don't have any immediate plans to travel but I would really like to host some cool people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As stated above I have co-hosted a few people and all of them have been great experiences! I love giving drunk monument tours and chillin around the city. My best couchsurfing experience I'd say has got to be the first time we hosted people. We were really nervous about how it would be but it turned out to be so much fun and a wonderful introduction to the CS community. A few months later I was able to connect my friend who happened to be passing through their city to them and it was really cool to be able to introduce people who live half way around the world from each other.
Here's to more awesome experiences!

Interests

I love music. I love the fact that when nothing else in the world is right, music always hits the spot. I love that music can throw you back years to that one night or that relationship or that year or whatever and make you feel like you're there again. I love that. Live music is something that I've recently told myself I'm going to do more. I love getting to know others through their musical taste. I could sit around all day just listening and exploring different types of music.

As much as it pains me to say; I also love politics. I am really interested in others' view of US politics and policies and how they relate to foreign policy. I can talk for hours about what's wrong and what we can [maybe] do to change it. It's hard for me to see something wrong and not try to fix it. Not in the perfectionist way, but in more of a 'I know I can do something about this' type of way. My plan is to go into politics in the future but for right now, I'm an opinionated observer.

Speaking of observing; I like to observe people and things and try to figure out more about them. I'm taking some sociology classes that kind of play into this as well. The way people interact with others and other things is very telling about their personality, where they came from, and what they care about.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: folk, hip hop, country, musicals, piano, indie, rock, raggae, mostly anything. I recently have gone to the Black Keys/Arctic Monkeys concert and had a blast as well as a pretty small raggae festival which was also amazing. I'm currently looking for people to come with me to a Jason Mraz/Christina Perri concert and a Florence + The Machine concert later in the summer.
Books - With school being a main priority I don't have all that much time to reach for fun but I do enjoy some of my textbooks way too much. Broadening my knowledge on anything and everything is something that I really strive to do and books that can aide in that are ideal. One of my problems is that I start to read books and then get caught up in something else and never get around to finishing them. This has happened with The New Jim Crow and The Unhealthy Truth but hopefully I'll get back into them soon. One of my all time favorite books remains Always Running for reasons you might find out if we meet up!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My freshman year of college I was in the marching band and we had to do some performances in a concert hall as the finale to some concerts. Because of the section I was in I would stand in the aisles during these shows. There was this one kid on campus who was blind but he was very independent. He would ride the bus by himself and I would always see him out and about walking around with his guider stick. I had never spoken to him but I always admired how he never let anything get in his way. While I was performing I saw him a little bit away from me and he was straight up jamming out. Our band was 400+ people so the sound definitely filled the room and the acoustics were so good you could hear all the different instruments very well. It really struck me to see him sitting there with his eyes closed rocking back and forth just letting the music completely absorb him. So I shut my eyes and tried to experience the rest of the concert like him. I went home later that night and just cried.
