ABOUT ME

(R) My nickname in university was 'Asian Becca' because I loved and was obsessed with all things Asian- food, history, language, everything! During my sophomore year, I studied abroad and interned in Beijing, China for 6 months. After uni, the JET Programme gave me an opportunity to live in Japan and teach English for a year. My students and co-workers were great, and I also had a lot of time to travel solo.
Despite having a severe dietary restriction (I'm a celiac and cannot eat gluten- wheat, rye, barley, ect.) I still love trying new foods and cooking.
I'm happiest when I am surrounded by a group of vibrant, happy people or if everyone is busy, curling up with a good book is great too!
I also love cats and swimming.
While I enjoy having drinks with friends, I'm not a big party animal, but am willing to try almost anything once.

PHILOSOPHY

Be happy as much as you can and be grateful for all the good things you have. Life is too short to hold grudges and everyone makes mistakes.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I am at my parents' house and will be starting travel in January, so I can't host right now, but hopefully can start hosting in August of 2013.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This is my first time couchsurfing. I met many people in hostels who have couchsurfed and wanted to give it a try! I have many host families and close friends who I have stayed with in China and Japan, but I'm looking forward to meeting people in other countries!

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

My study abroad experience in Beijing, China was great. I camped out on a non-repaired/restored portion of the Great Wall of China, got a normally off-limits tour of the Forbidden City in Beijing thanks to my boss at The Beijing Cultural Heritage Center, volunteered at Huilin Center for the mentally disabled in Beijing, China; held a red panda and climbed Mt. Emei in Sichuan.

I love learning languages and new recipes! I'm not especially good at crafts, but would love to try more. Right now I can cross stitch and do origami.
Anything new and cultural excites me; my host mom in Japan taught me how to play a few songs on the koto and shamisen, my students in Japan taught me calligraphy and Japanese tea ceremony and how to wear a yukata and kimono.

I can teach English, Japanese and basic Chinese, plus make some American, Japanese and Chinese dishes. Also, I can teach swimming to kids and adults! My traveling companion can juggle and play tennis.

More than anything else, I want to trade stories with others.
