About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Summer 2014: I'll be traveling around the world, one couch at a time...

ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Rebecca. I'm a recent college graduate, and as of this fall, I will be a graduate student and assistant in a Master of Fine Arts program. I'll be studying creative writing. I enjoy cooking (I'm not an amazing cook, but I'm working on it), hiking (I previously worked part-time at a summer camp, so I love spending time outdoors), reading, writing, painting, gardening, and yoga. I don't smoke. I make a conscious effort to eat healthy, but I'm not a vegetarian (and I still have my guilty pleasures - doesn't everyone?).

PHILOSOPHY

I never want to look back at my life and wish I had done more. I don't want to be plagued by "should haves" for the rest of my life. I want to do things that challenge me, as well as things that bring me pleasure - if possible, things that accomplish both. I'm three years into my twenties, and I feel like they flew by. I want to be a happier, more adventurous person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm hoping to make some friends and visit them next summer when I travel abroad. Everything's a little loosely planned right now, but I've always wanted to travel, and I'm tired of making excuses and waiting and waiting to actually do it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have no Couchsurfing experience, but I've heard some amazing things about it. It's definitely something I'm excited to try. I wish I could host someone on my couch, but unfortunately, that's not possible right now.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Beginners, Silver Linings Playbook, Roman Holiday, Casablanca, etc. (I'm so terrible at lists like this...)

Music: The Lumineers, Imagine Dragons, The National, Mumford and Sons, Fleet Foxes, Death Cab for Cutie, Laura Marling, Florence and the Machine, Cat Power, The Black Keys, The Avett Brothers, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Iron and Wine, Mazzy Star, Ray LaMontagne, Passion Pit, The Shins, The Temper Trap, Bach, Tchaikovsky

Books: (It may be easier to just list some of my favorite authors.) Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Flannery O'Connor, George Orwell, Kurt Vonnegut, John Green, Leo Tolstoy, Cormac McCarthy, J.D. Salinger, David Mitchell, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Michael Ondaatje, Jonathan Safran Foer, Jeffrey Eugenides, Kazuo Ishiguro, Henry David Thoreau, Haruki Murakami

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I watched the sun set on beach in Florida. It was a gorgeous, soft, white sand beach on the Gulf, and I can't remember another time when I felt so relaxed and happy. As far as amazing things go, I'm sure there are many, many more amazing things out there - and I would love to experience them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm knowledgeable when it comes to literature and writing. I won't claim I'm a decent cook, but my baking skills are far more advanced. I can help others with English. I'm very interested in art. I would love to learn another language - or at least begin to learn another language. I'm interested in learning more about different places and cultures and people.
