About Me

Hey I'm Reed! I'm 26 years old, currently living in New York, NY. For 4 years I lived in Aberdeen, Scotland studying International Relations and Legal Studies, and doing part time bar work. I'm originally form Southern California. After graduating I spend a year traveling through Asia, Australasia, and the South Pacific, including 3 months hitchhiking in Japan and 6 months in Australia on a Working Holiday Visa. Since returning I've lived in Los Angeles, New York, and Portland. I recently finished serving an Americorps year of service with Habitat for Humanity, and I'm now living and working in New York City.

I want to travel and experience as much as I can! I want to meet new people and indulge myself in other cultures and ways of thinking. I like to have a good time, meet new people, and have good friendly debates.

'Don't do what you want. Do what you don't want. Do what you're trained not to want. Do the things that scare you the most.'
Chuck Palahniuk, Invisible Monsters, 1999

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I first heard about CSing from one of my friends that was living in Israel, it seemed like a great idea so I checked it out. My brother, my friend Ian, and I spent one month traveling across eastern Europe and met some great CSers/friends on the way. Since then I have done some hosting to hopefully provide a good experience like the one I had to new and experienced surfers. In 2012 I spent 3 months hitchhiking and CSing through Japan, it was an absolutely amazing experience.

Music (rock, indie, folk, always looking for good new bands), body modification (especially traditional Japanese tattoos), recently started getting into photography, other cultures and traditions, experiencing the world.

Music, Movies & Books

A little bit of everything really. But for authors definitely William Gibson, Haruki Murakami, Hurbert Shelby, Irvine Welsh, and Chuck Palahniuk.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Burning Man. It is the most amazing experience ever, I highly recommend it to all CSers (and everybody else for that matter). If you ask me about it I probably wont shut up for a few hours!

Countries I've Visited

Australia, Austria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Fiji, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Samoa, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Thailand, United Kingdom

Countries I've Lived In

United Kingdom, United States
