Sobre mí

// BACKGROUND //

Hey there, I'm Andrew born and raised in Singapore but currently residing in Kyoto, Japan for both work and studies.

// PERSONALITY //

I’m generally easy-going, open-minded, very fun-loving ;) and spontaneous with a wide-range of interests, I am blessed with a wander lust that makes me an avid traveler who hopes to be able to see as much of the world as I can, a luxury that I believe is unprecedented in human history.

// INTERESTS //

Apart from an insatiable thirst to learn, discover and travel, I found my passion in photography especially in landscapes, city-scapes and night photography (astrophotography included)

I also enjoy light mountaineering, natural landscapes, world history (military history included), philosophy, astronomy, music (jazz, rock, electronic) and food & drinks!

Last but not least, I enjoy cooking, I'm in no ways a professional chef but I trust that my cooking is edible! lol

// THINGS TO NOTE //

* I receive a relatively large number of requests to stay and sometimes I have other appointments scheduled or other guests staying hence if I decline your request to stay, its likely not an issue about you but simply because my schedule is tied up or I have too many surfers staying with me during that period of time.

* Even if I cannot host you, I'd be glad to assist with your itinerary plans as much as I can.

* I typically have classes on weekdays from 1.30PM to 5PM, I’ll be able to join my guests for activities on weekends or after 5PM on weekdays.

* Smoking is only allowed at the balcony.

* It is imperative that my guests do their best to keep my place clean and be mindful about the usage of electricity and water e.g turning off lights & water after using, avoid taking long showers, turning off air-con/heater when not in use.

* I am generally rather easy-going so I will try to accommodate your itinerary & needs to the best of my ability.

// THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME NOTES BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH CERTAIN SURFER/S //

I'd say that I generally had very positive experience from hosting CSers but there are a small number of whom I had less than pleasant experience with hence I think that I should include a disclaimer here.

** CS etiquette - do remember that CS hosts are offering to host out of their own volition. I don't proclaim to speak for all hosts but as for myself, I will always place my personal and/or work-related schedules above any hosting commitment.

Although I will certainly seek to fulfill my hosting commitments for the period that I have agreed to but if an unlikely and unforeseen circumstances do occur, I will unfortunately have to cancel the hosting confirmation (even on the same day of hosting) and guests who wishes to stay with me should accept and understand this.

My personal opinion on CSing in general is to always be prepared to find alternative forms of accommodation during your trip as the nature of CSing will not provide the sort of guarantee that one might be accustomed to from commercial accommodation bookings.

----- I strongly encourage guests whom I have accepted their stay requests to maintain contact with me leading up to the stay, sending me a follow-up mail/text a week or a few days before the stay itself and also to establish an alternative form of communication through a variety of messaging platforms. ---- This is so as to maintain solid follow-up which can help both parties avoid potential issues e.g a mix-up of dates or schedule clashes etc.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

// CURIOSITY //

I’m interested to know more people around the world, hear their stories, why do they travel, their outlook of life to find inspiration within myself and most importantly, have fun together!

// LIFE MISSION //

I'd also like to do this as part of my life's mission to help as many people I can, even if its just in a small way, I'd still like to be able to help those who needed my help, one small step at a time, therefore I do not and will not demand anything from my guests.

Música, películas y libros

// MUSIC //
My tastes are very varied, with interests ranging from Rock, Progressive Rock to Jazz, Nu-Jazz, Jazz House and to EDM & Progressive House

// FILMS //
I am a huge movie-buff, I primarily enjoy action movies, documentaries, war-films, thrillers and animated shows/films.

I'd say here that I am a massive fan of EVANGELION & GHOST IN THE SHELL (G.I.T.S.)

as for Ghibli works, my favorites are - Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Mononoke Hime & My Neighbor Totoro

another director that I'm a big fan of is MAKOTO SHINKAI, I've thoroughly enjoyed his works since his fan-made Voices of a Distant Star to his current hit title, Your Name.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Traveled to Everest when I was in Nepal on a volunteer program.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

// PHOTOGRAPHY //

I have been shooting for the past 10 years and went from a NIKON system to my current FUJIFILM X mirror-less system which I'm loving every moment of. I can teach the elements of photography (basic to intermediate level) ranging from the technical to composition aspects, specifically in landscape, cityscape and night photography.

// JAPANESE HISTORY & CULTURE //

apart from photography, I am well-versed in Japanese culture, tradition & history. If you'll like to learn about the history of Japan (from the Heian period onwards) and its respective cultures and traditions, I'll be glad to share what i know with you, so that you can gain a deeper understanding (hopefully appreciation too) of Japan, beyond what most only know from films e.g Last Samurai, Memoirs of a Geisha.
