Black rice is a mutation of regular rice, which is more chewy and sticky compared with jasmine rice.
The mutation happened 10,000 ago in ancient China and has been crossbreed by humans to meet market demand.
The high level of anthocyanin in black rice not only contribute to the dark coloration, but also "act as antioxidants and fighting free radicals, offer anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-cancer benefits." ( verywell )
In shorts, black rice is a truly healthy grain that one should consider to consume once in a while.
Where to find black rice? I usually pick it up from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's when I feel like I need a healthier diet.
What to try some? I'll strongly recommend trying out Black Rice Pudding whenever you stop by a Thai restaurant. Melted black rice topped with warm coconut milk. The perfect dessert to end your meal with!
