About Me

I believe in people working together and sharing their gifts to build more healthy, just, fun & beautiful communities.

I graduated from college in the wake of the '08 financial crash. Disillusioned, I left that path behind and became a freelancer and an activist. I helped start Peaceful Uprising, a group that formed in Salt Lake City after Tim DeChristopher disrupted the BLM's illegal 2008 auction of gas parcels around Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. http://www.peacefuluprising.org/author/jake-hanson

These wonderful filmmakers from Colorado produced a film about it all called Bidder 70 -- if you watch it you'll see me getting arrested for the first time ;-)

I later worked to found Transition Salt Lake and spend 4 years as an environmental and social justice activist. http://transitionsaltlake.org

In 2013, I chose to put more energy into creating economic alternatives. I moved to Colorado and became the first full time student and co-creator of Transition Lab, a grassroots education for local community resilience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've certainly spent my time away from home staying at new or old friends' places.

Also, at Transition Lab, I've spent 7 months living as a "Skilled Resident" by exchanging 10 hours/week of my talents with my host and paying $0 in rent. The main skills I've exchanged so far have been permaculture garden design, website development, and helping grow a non-profit, The Time Bank of the Rockies. - http://timebankoftherockies.com/
