About Me
Hello! Me llamo Rex Cyrus. I'm from The Philippines! 🇵🇭 I moved to Bayaca Island (2017) to start my island project. (Making it self sustaining + Dive Camp + Hostel + Yoga retreat / meditation haven)

I’m hosting on my family’s vacation island. My Grandfather passed it to my Mom. Now, I’m taking care of it. I’ve opened a Dive Camp to fund my other island projects. I still take in CouchSurfers / WorkAways from time to time. It is a very special place and it is meant to be shared. As of now, there are only 3 people lving on the island. Plus, 4 dogs and a cat.
Hosting has always been nice! We buy the groceries together, cook for each other (whether it be meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans), share stories and ideas. The most I’ve hosted all at once is 12 people from different countries. It’s very colorful and multicultural! We prepared different dishes from different countries. It was amazing! You'll have an amazing time in the island as I don’t accept many guests to keep it clean and pristine. I also have one of the best snorkeling spots (as per guests) around Coron / Culion. I don’t have fancy rooms. You can stay wherever you want. Sleep on the Pop-up tents though and it’s a thousand star accommodation!
*I DON’T charge accommodation to my Couchsurfers*

How to get to The Island:
Option 1: From Coron Town Proper you will have to hire a boat to get to the island.
Option 2: Take a ferry to Culion Town (From Coron). Then a small boat to the island.
Option 3: I will arrange a small fishing boat. This is the cheapest option. ₱1,500 (Dec 2023) Only if my neighbor is available
Option 4: I pick you up. You pay for the gas. Only if my boat is available or I don’t have students. (Used to be the cheapest option but now, I recommend to just rent a boat from Coron)
***Update*** 2022
I prefer that Couchsurfers look for transportation to the island. I will not pay for your transportation. I’ve been getting a lot of requests recently, sometime asking me and a few even giving conditions that they will come only if I can get them here for free. They’re telling me that to get to the island is not cheap. Well, it isn’t. It’s an island. It means it’s surrounded by water. There are no busses / Tuk-tuks / Tricycle to get here.
*****************************************************************
Food: You have to buy food in Coron as there are no market place in the Island.
*** I don't have a refrigerator in the island.
***Every 3-4 days, we can go to the town for supplies
Water: Fresh water is limited. So, we save water as much as possible. Same goes for bathing water.
Electricity: Solar Energy

If you're looking for clubbing or partying, you'd best go to Boracay. As I don't have those in the island. I got nature. :) If you want some peace and quiet, the island is the place.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Well, just like everyone. I would like to get started in the world of traveling. I pretty much stayed within the confines of my comfort zone and now, I want to break free from it. I wanted learn different cultures and the way of life of people worldwide and gain more and more friends along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love music! I listen to all types of genres. Mainly Rock in general. I like incorporating combinations of genres when making music.
I'm not much of a reader as I had only read one book. And it's not The Bible.
But, I love movies. Action, Sci-Fi, Horror, Inspirational and Feel-Good movies!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- Left the family business and is currently making one for myself.
- I had a huge fear of the ocean so I conquered it by being a Dive Instructor. 🏴☠️
Teach, Learn, Share
I play drums and a little bit of guitar and ukulele. I consider myself to be a good teacher when it comes to drums. I may not be able to teach it the proper way (with notes) but the easiest way to get you rocking! I can also teach you how to solve a Rubik's Cube if you dont know already. :)
There are also somethings I can share that I might know of yet that I have in me. But I'm getting there!
What I Can Share with Hosts
Right now, I can only cook one dish. But, am learning how to cook at least one dish of a different kind to suit diffrent food preferences for different people.
