About Me

My name is Rhys. I'm 25 years old, soon to be 26 in January. I left Bath University, where I was studying Sports Coaching & Education only after 1 year because I couldn't hold back any longer my ambition to travel. It was a shame to not see through my degree, but by no means do I regret the decision at all. Since that decision 7 years ago, I have been blessed to have travelled to more than 15 different countries around the world, covering 4 different continents. I made it my aim the moment I left home to travel the world that I would fund every step of my journey, and I am proud to say I have. In that time I have also chosen to spend time here and there back at home, which is a small coastal town just outside Cardiff, Wales; called Barry. I am from a very small family, but a very close family, so I think that's the reason I've wanted to visit home from time to time.
The ambition is to keep travelling as far and wide as possible. I would be lying if I said I didn't travel from a selfish perspective, because majority of the countries I have visited have been my own choice. However in the next few years, I plan on visiting a lot more less developed countries to offer my experiences, knowledge and general love to help make a difference to those who aren't blessed with the same opportunities as myself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I spent 2 years in Australia where I used couch surfing a few times, mainly along the East Coast. However it was my friend who had a profile set up which we contacted people from; so this for me is the first official time of being a couch surfing member.
I would say my biggest passion in life is meeting new people. I find it fascinating finding out about different lifestyles, cultures, languages, as well as tell tales about my own. And this only comes about by interacting with people, whether they're a friend, a friend of a friend, or even a complete stranger. I do thoroughly enjoy experiences in hostels, but I think couch surfing just seems to create more personal relationships with like-minded people.

Music, Movies, and Books

When I say favourite Music taste, this only really means the music I have listened to longest - which is Hip-Hop and R'n'B. However recently I have lived and worked in Ibiza for 4 summers, and my love and interest for all music reached new heights. Music for me now all depends on emotion, environment and the company, and it can range from Jazz, to Reggae, to House/Techno.

When it comes to books, I never have a favourite as I always learn different things from different books. But a book that I can safely say changed my perception of life was 'The Celestine Prophecy' by James Redfield. Another author who's books I have been reading a lot of recently is Deepak Chopra.

As for movies I love comedy! And just to name a few actors it would have to be Chris Rock, Kevin Hart and Adam Sandler.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a qualified Shotokan Karate coach, where coaching has ranged from child and adult beginners, right through to International competitors. I have also competed for my country myself, from 14-18, so I have a lot of experience and knowledge of martial arts that I'm more than willing to share with anyone who may be interested.
I have always taken care of what I fuel myself with when it comes to food, so that's also another topic I can shed light on as I have taken it upon myself to learn a vast range of healthy recipes, and to gain a better understanding of the effects different foods can have on our body, both good and bad.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a very positive outlook on life. I hold a lot of faith for people, so wherever I may have the opportunity to stay I will bring good energy, a happy, confident vibe that I'm sure many would appreciate and a genuine gratitude for simply inviting me into their home.
