About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To evolve, to make music, to heal and help heal, to deepen my understanding of the world through others' eyes.

ABOUT ME

I'm Rich, but not famous.. If you laughed at that then we should probably bot be in the same room as each other with company as I enjoy the punning arts a little too much! I'm a Bristol based musician specialising in percussive acoustic bass guitar (see hnyah: http://vimeo.com/84531399), I enjoy engaging with all art forms though and collaborating across platforms (particularly dance). My musical taste and play styles range from avant garde jazz to pop to spirit metal to taiko drumming to breakbeat to hip-hop et al and I guess my film influences fall under most of these catgories if you could explain a film using only musical terms!

I enjoy engaging in debate around worldly aspects especially quantum mechanics, spirituality and their interwoven natures. Sometimes I make sushi. :P

And finally a joke. There's only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't. :D

PHILOSOPHY

I think this is one for good o' Rabindranath Tagore:

"Asks the Possible of the Impossible, "Where is your dwelling-place?" "In the dreams of the Impotent," comes the answer."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm looking largely for crash pads whilst I'm about the country working festivals, but I'm also looking to perform in people's living rooms (see Couchsurfing experience). I want to engage with people who are interested in my approach to the bass guitar (and broader musical ponderings), as well as people who'd like to learn the style.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

About three years ago I helped arrange a UK tour of living room gigs for the two bands I was in at the time. We played over 30 performances in two months, excluding open mics and concert venues, and came away with a healthy smattering of stories and friends.

We played for a friend's family in mid Wales part way through the tour and our friend's Dad was.. hmmm.. inebriated shall we say. He stood up to give a speech between two of our songs and exclaimed proudly, 'Boys, that was so good you can each take turns having sex with my wife!'

...

She was not impressed.

Interests

Probably quicker to list things I don't like but that's boring. Music, cinema, games, spirit and ways of healing, Terry Pratchett, Japan (language, art, history etc.), Escher, Tool (thanks guys), sustainable living, the sciences, Minecraft, Carl Jung, future technologies, natural building (especially Earthships)
