ABOUT ME

I grew up in LA but have been living in New York on and off since 2004. A lot of my travel has been in Asia because I lived in Japan for a couple of years, but I try to get to wherever I can. At the moment I'm in grad school for law and foreign policy in New York, so I'll be pretty settled for a few years, but after I finish I'm hoping to move abroad again. I'm outgoing but relaxed, and get along well with most people.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just got started, but I'm happy to host as soon as I return home. The people I know who have Couch Surfed and hosted have had nothing but good experiences so far.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not much so far - just discovered this site at my sister's recommendation. She and her friends have had a bunch of great experiences using the site.

Interessen

Cooking, trying new food, backpacking, aikido, jiu jitsu, skiing, rock climbing, reading books other people think are boring, learning new languages, having experiences that are worth telling stories about.

Music: Arcade Fire, The Shins, Lupe Fiasco, Passion Pit, Tortoise, MGMT, Santigold, Scissor Sisters, Tilly and the Wall, Rolling Stones, James Brown

Movies: Blade Runner, La Jetee, The Third Man, Star Wars, Lawrence of Arabia, Fight Club, Royal Tenenbaums, City of God, all the James Bond movies, anything by Kurosawa or Miyazaki

Books: Hemingway; Proust; Guns, Germs, and Steel; anything about economic history, especially the East India Company (yes, I am a dork)

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

A baby elephant being pushed to the surface to breathe every 15 feet or so by its family while fording the Zambezi river. Also giant tortoises mating on the Galapagos. Imagine the slowest porn movie ever made. Then put that in slow motion. That's about the idea.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I can teach basic Japanese, Spanish, and martial arts (aikido, jiu jitsu). I'm also a pretty good cook and can teach people how to make all sorts of tasty treats. Oh, and I'm an Eagle Scout - I can teach you how to make a fire, sharpen a knife, or tie a knot. And if you ever need help with Excel, I'm pretty good at that too... though I don't usually talk about it.
