To get as far away from my job as often as possible.

ABOUT ME

Sometimes I talk too much. Actually, most of my friends say I talk too much!

I really enjoy travelling to new places including cold wet ones in the UK. I enjoy walking and cycling for fun and take my time with both.

I like talking and will have a go at the language of any country I visit. I speak French well and am comfortable in francophone places. I have never formally learned Spanish but can get by in pidgin Spanish, mixed rather irritatingly with Brazilian Portuguese. I can buy a postage stamp in German. I have a years experience of Italian and can rub along quite comfortably in Rome with the bohemians in the Trastevere.

I need 8 hours sleep a night, without that I become a bear and roar. I need regular meals - yes I suppose I'm a slave to my body but - hey I've only got the one so I need to keep it happy!

PHILOSOPHY

Try to do what you can to help the World to be a better place in you own little corner. Be aware of the the bigger issues you perhaps can't do anything about and act how and when you can.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am happy to make my couch available provided you can cope with the cramped overcrowded living condition! :-)

I plan to surf myself to gain deeper knowledge of the places I go by seeing them through the eyes of the local residents.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The best couchsurf was to Helsinki over Christmas and the New Year. We cut out own Christmas Tree in the snow in Pietarsaari and met all the philosophical lone walker on Suomelina. The days lasted from 10am to 3pm and it was cold and dark and magically Christmasy.

I loved the coffee shop at the station and the Russian restaurent where I was so poor I could only afford to buy Bear-liver pate on toast.

I loved the friends I met there and will treasure my memories long into my dotage.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Goodness - everywhere has so many amazing things to see and do it's hard to choose what to put.

I suppose jumping out of an aeroplane on a static line was one of the most exhilarating, but having a near fatal accident in a Matatu at Nakuru , Kenya was probably the most life - changing.

Then there are those perfect moments of stillness and calm in beautiful places and on the empty moors, in the mountains or marshes on the East coast.
