About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Indepndent, creative active, libertarian leaning, well read, musically talented, holistic guy. I'm gay, but have been involved in relationships with women earlier in my life. Not really serial monogamous but not opposed either. However I'm NOT looking for hook ups with men who I host so please don't book expecting sex or even to make sexual orientation a main focus on the connection, I'm past that point........ but am very platonically friendly. Eclectic interests, kayaking, drumming,(I'm in the band Samba Squad, cooking, guitar, languages, travel etc

ABOUT ME

For the purposes of this site, Im interested in meeting 'peeps' from various geographic and political backgrounds. People often find it somewhat surprising that I'm in my fifties as I appear to them to be 43, 45 . I'm extremely fit and active for someone of any age, and have been my entire life.....I kayak off the western beaches of Toronto on kayak. I own several kayaks in my building that is about 300 metres from a slip that leads into Lake Ontario. So the Credit or Humber Rivers are an urban day trip, you can pack food, pull up and have a meal and head back on the water. It's been a great 'refuge' through this covid time. Most people don't associate Toronto with nature, however there are vast and under utilized green spaces within the city limits - ways to socialize here beyond the concrete, glass, steel and pavement. (Dealcoholized beer, sandwiches, and yummy desert eaten off the bow of your kayak while dangling your feet over the boat and soaking up the rays...)

I smoke weed and drink in moderation. However I'm very comfortable around people who do neither and am a firm supporter of people who are abstainers and encourage folks to go 'alcohol free' or 'weed free' for weeks or months and assess the over importance it often has in people's lives and how it negatively impacts health. (Not the mention your capacity to do other things with your money)

I have a house in Windsor Detroit. on the Canadian side where I can also host couchsurfers. I had been running a meetup called Destination Detroit but unfortunately I cancelled it once the border shut down in March 2020. I'll be helping to navigate folks through the border questions again soon, hopefully.

PHILOSOPHY

I am Maltese Canadian, 1st generation. I'm somewhat of an introvert (though some people consider me quite outgoing) and consider myself quite independent, travel 'solo' a lot. Im self employed which gives me more time freedom than most. I am an intensely curious person who feels I could live anywhere in the world and relate to my environment. I love the outdoors and am not one for crowds, though I like patios and concerts. I was recently cited for a "Toronto Volunteer Legacy Award" by the City of Toronto for my work with the Chrysalis Anti Human Trafficking Organization.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Music, Movies, and Books

Very interested in humanistic psychology and Integral Thinking: Everything from mindfulness meditation to Cognitive behavior therapy, etc. All the great sages from east and west, Adam Beck, Dr. David Burns, Carl Jung, Marianne Williamson, etc , chinese philsophy, chakra theory, the work of Ken Wilber, Clair Graves, Robert Bly, Jung, Lao Tsu, Chogyam Trungpa. Adam Beck, Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, etc. I was hosting the West Toronto 4 hands Massage Exchange with about 135 active 'massage enthusiast' members. But again recently cancelled it meetup due to Covid.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did sex work through university, over 25 years ago. Today I volunteer for the Chrysalis Network, a 24/7 crisis line for people who have a history of sexual exploitation and or have been through human trafficking. I know the sex trade from the inside and am able to understand the subtle nuances of the sex trade and sex trafficking in ways that very few people understand as a psychotherapist and former sex worker. Sex work should not be glorified or put on a pedestal. I appreciate my ability to speak candidly about my perspective 25 years later. "Psychotherapist andformer sex worker' cannot seemingly co exist, But it does. I don't glorify sex work at all but I take a more philosophical view of it..... , in light of the fact that a lot of work feels like 'prostitution' and so the archetype of prostituting oneself is not so uncommon..... many social workers come across sex workers and often have over simplified ideas of what is going on here. It's not easy to do it without being negatively affected I would say, but that could be said about other professions too. And it should not define EVERYTHING about you either.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a clinical hypnotherapist, and a behavioral therapist. I do a bit of contract work and have a small private practice. doing massage, hypnosis and other cognitive behavioral types of therapy.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The great outdoors, a penchant for good food and wine, theories on healing, on food as medicine, on hospitality, spiritual knowledge, philosophy, cancel culture, polarization in politics, hypnotherapy, massage, travel friendship, good conversation, and uh, great sex...(I've earned the right to tell it like it is.... etc.

I'm politically independent, and enjoy 'surprising' people with my ability to debate them on issues they see as 'settled', etc. I have friends who are American republicans and have no affiliation with any one movement or party.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cuba, Dominican Republic, France, India, Italy, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, United States, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In
