About Me

I love to cook. Each day, a new chance to make something delicious, and to share with people too! I think everyone appreciates a good meal.

An old injury made life a bit more tricky for me, so now I'm pursuing my passions instead of money. I just can't handle the kind of repetition that got me into this mess. But knowing now, that I am a better cook than I ever was a mechanic, I am happy to make food for a more intimate group.

I have been working on a website, just to keep track of what I like to prepare. It's a continual work in progress, and I have little ambition for fame or fortune. I do however, wish to keep traveling with the a heavy focus on expanding my creativity. Food, photography and video are subjects I rarely get exhausted by :).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couch surfing because It connects me to the people who understand the travel vibe. It's because being a guest or host, I make connections with people I may not have met otherwise; and because I often cook to the ratio of one onion, which means far to much food for just me.

Interests

I seem to be drawn to the preparation of traditional food. I like to use real ingredients, and love the challenge of cooking for any diet. I see food as an infinite puzzle. To be mastered over and over again.

I had considered going to school for the culinary arts, but with no certain capacity to work with this injury, I couldn't risk the student debt. Besides, I feel I've attended enough school for now.

Music, Movies, and Books

In the right setting, anything is perfect.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Thailand, I rented a house from a local cooking instructor. Together we hosted a few cooking class parties, inviting travellers from all countries. We went to markets, and worked as a group to make authentic local cuisines. Then we sat by the fire, drinking and smoking and eating to our hearts content. An experience I would not trade for the world.

At the same location in Thailand, I gave myself a project. I wanted to show my friends the food I was learning, I also needed to start keeping track of the things I liked to cook.

I began to learn about photography and video editing, and was surprised to find both bring me the same joy as cooking. I love pursuits which provide almost infinite room for growth.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am back in North America and pondering how to continue this journey until I can get to India.

It's a virtue being unable to work the restaurant industry. I don't think it would have suited me anyway. When I pour my heart into a meal, I want to sit with the people eating it. Even better if we can work together and collaborate. I need to remain a student, even as I attempt to teach.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will cook. For you, your family, and friends. However, I will go at a pace that my body can manage. That said, I enjoy the challenge of accommodating any diet. I also try to make everything from scratch, with the exception of things like soy sauce. I am currently well equipped with spices to cook Indian, Thai, Mexican, French, Italian, Japanese... you get the idea.

Worth mentioning, I can also advise and assist with equipment repair... anything from a washing machine to a bulldozer; or help you film/edit a video.

If the vibe is good, I will stay for my granted welcome. If I feel our time has passed, I will continue on my journey, happy for the experience of crossing paths.
