To learn as much as possible about opera and performing.

ABOUT ME

I am a senior Music Education major at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. I am currently completing my student teaching semester at Chester, SD and am thoroughly enjoying it. I am a soprano and am passionate about voice and opera. This spring I audition at five different schools for a place in a master's program studying voice performance. My eventual goal is to build a career as an opera singer and teach young singers about voice.

I grew up on a farm in Lake Andes, SD and have three brothers. One works back home and is married with four children. Another is a freshman at SDSU majoring in Agronomy. The youngest is a freshman in high school back home. I am a proud sister and aunt and do everything I can to help my younger brothers. My parents have been married 25 years and I have a very close relationship with both of them. My mom is a RN working with local seniors and my dad works as a field man for a crop insurance company. We grew up with a huge garden and lots of responsibilities and I am thankful for that. Though we are no longer farming, we still live on the farm in the house I was raised in.

I have grown to love Brookings and have experienced many things in my undergraduate years. I am an Alpha Xi Delta alum, a cantor for St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, and an active member of the student body and the community. It will be sad to leave Brookings, but I am ready for a new place and new learning!

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I love comedies and suspense films with good plots. I listen to about every kind of music imaginable, and when I have time to read I like books with meaning, but I have no particular favorites. I am an Edgar Allan Poe fan. I love the music of Gabriel Faure when thinking classically.

I can give an understanding of Midwestern values and tolerance. I can also provide insight on the values of singing and classical music.
I am looking to learn anything! Maybe learning about the experience of growing up in a city.
