Overview
About Me
I'm a city boy who spent the last three years of his life in a small town in Tamil Nadu. Since the place didn't provide with many entertainment options, I tried to spend most of my vacations and weekends travelling throughout the region. I visited small temple towns, hill stations, climbed impregnable forts, trekked to various peaks, chilled in tea gardens and at beaches. During my trips to these places, irrespective of duration, quality of accommodation, weather, and level of urbanisation, I found these experiences to be extremely enlightening. I learnt various traditions, practices and cultures of the region. I also learned the different dialects of Tamil, Malyallam and Kannada spoken throughout South India. I learnt the different ways of life that people lead throughout the country, and how language and practices differ from region to region.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I believe that learning the culture of a place is as important as visiting tourist attractions. I'm on couchsurfing to make new friends, to learn the culture, the practices and the traditions of the place I wish to visit.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music- I listen to all types of music- Indian, classical, rock or pop. I'm currently in a hip/jop phase, I've been spending most of my time listening to the works of american rap artists such as Kanye West and Jay Z.
Books- I like to read non-fiction historical books but won't mind picking up a suspense novel every now and then.
Movies- I don't have a preference for a particular genre, I consider myself to a have a varied taste when it comes to motion pictures, I feel as engaged in a documentary as in a horror or an action movie.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Solo travelled to the mountains of chickmaglur, spent two nights in a tent with no contact to the outside world.
Seen Afghanistan and Iran up-close through a cockpit's windows.
Spotted dolphins in a tiny beach town of Karde, Maharashtra.
Fished with local fishermen in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach- I can teach various easy-to-cook Indian recipes, Indian songs, simple Hindi words, and bollywood dance steps.
Learn- I'd be willing to learn anything new that comes my way, be it a new language, a recipe, an adventure sport or a new dance form.
Share- Stories and tips on every place I've visited in India (I've travelled to 23 states of India)
What I Can Share with Hosts
Ideas and stories on food, dance, travel, family/friends, history, politics, music, Indian culture, philosophy etc.
I'd love for us to cook together and go on small picnics, treks and excursions.
