ABOUT ME
I am euh... how to explain oneself? Small, indecisive, somewhat shy, absentminded, curious, in love with life, trees, leaves and sea-breezes, pebbles, corner-of-the-eye-smiles, early mornings and cups of coffee...
born in the north of northern ireland then off with the people. Now, in marseille, trying to live this city in all her faces, to create spaces where new winds can blow and there can be a together
though
the days pass with their time, the itch in my feet, between my toes, grows to the small of my back, shoulderblades, elbows, palms of my hands, mind : go! now! but where? here even in the shadows, here already is far
PHILOSOPHY
pas après pas
footsteps, take the slow paths, the long the winding paths, the ones with the wind, take them when they offer themselves to me, where they lead
glimpse, capture, try to be just one instant the immensity of earth
moving
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I spent more or less the last ten years glued to my city, Marseilles, working and living with people who had travelled to europe to find another life. We created a collective in 2015 to try and create collective space to resist the racism of french society, and to make acces to legal rights, the language, housing and work opportunities more accessible. It was a strong though terrible time of my life. These years i gained my money working in the mountains as a shepherd, hearding one thousand five hundred sheep through the french alps with a close friend.
A couple of years ago my mind split as i felt we had not the strength to fight against the depths of the inequalities, and i left Marseilles to train as a house carpenter, willing that i should find a way through building with other people to create incomes and try to question from another angle the exclusion of the illegalised immigrants.
Well i guess i somehow got lost along this road and after three years travelling france and working on different projects i started to question my own place as an irish immigrant in france completely cut off from my home country, family and history, and decided to travel back to see what this all comes from.
I stayed a few places through the couchsurfing on travels in my early twenties, had people stay with us when we started to live steady again, and then there were just too many people needing houses in the city to take people from couchsurfing as well, our couch was allways occupied.
a desire to fall of the inter-net-work, to meet people by chance or on the road , becoming friends, seeing again and again, a friend met on couchsurfing then lived with us for a year...
