About Me

I'm vegetarian and really into mediation and personal development/self improvement.

I'm originally from NZ, but have lived in Australia since 2002, mostly in Sydney. I also lived in London for 4 years and did some travelling around Europe during that time.

I work in online marketing and am able to work when travelling, which has been pretty cool at times.

I try to focus most of my energy on learning how to become more self aware, more patient and kind towards others. I have found this a very meaningful way to live my life and taking this type of approach I found that I'm always learning more about myself and others.

Not what I'd necessarily consider to be a defining characteristic, but it just so happens that I am also gay.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I see it as a wonderful opportunity to make new connections and learn to love and grow more with everyone we meet. Having a particular passion for personal development, I find I have boundless time and energy for anyone I meet who sincerely wishes to improve themselves. What more meaningful a thing is there to do with this short time we have in the world....

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all kinds of music and it depends how I feel at the time. I'm a bit of a fan of 80's and 90's pop and also like a lot of rock/alternative music from the 90's and 00's like red hot chili peppers, U2, third eye blind, offspring, smashing pumpkins to name a few

In terms of movies I tend to like dramas the best and as I also have a background in martial arts (mainly kick-boxing), I also like movies that contain this element such as Ip Man, the Wrestler, House of Flying Daggers etc

I tend to read a lot of Buddhist books and ones that have resonated with me include Buddhism for Busy People, Transform Your Life, The Sutra of the Wise and Foolish, the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying and Joyful Path of Good Fortune

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once did a 3 month silent retreat in the mountains of Scotland. Despite being very challenging, I learned a lot about myself and the experiences I gained there were a spring board for me to make a lot more progress in my spiritual development

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to teach others about meditation and discuss personal development. I previously taught meditation for 5 years.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can talk about personal development and self improvement until the cows come home if that's something you enjoy. I also like to share stories about personal experiences and particularly enjoy talking about meditation
