About Me

Originally from Wuhan (yep...that famous Wuhan) and raised in Würzburg, a student and wine-growing city in southern Germany. Living in the Munich area for over 15 years.

Currently working in the energy division of Deutsche Bahn, the national Germany railway company, on hydrogen and sustainable energy.

Outside of work, I enjoy swimming, hiking, biking, and yoga—basically anything that helps balance out my love for good food. Especially fond of Mediterranean and, staying true to my roots :P , Chinese cuisine, with a soft spot for wine, pasta, seafood, and the occasional tapa or dumpling.

I speak German and English and know some Spanish, Italian and Mandarin.

Gay and in a relationship, just mentioning it here for clarity. Not(!) a nudist or naturist, in case that’s relevant.

Happy to meet up for a coffee, a language exchange, a walk/hike, or to explore Munich’s food scene together (still searching for authentic Spanish churros!).

Traveling frequently across Germany and to Italy, so hosting is a bit irregular at the moment—but I’m still up for a good conversation and cultural exchange if hosting is not possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

...to stay curious, to get to know people with different stories, cultures, and perspectives and to learn from them.

Interests

Staying active with swimming, hiking, and yoga.
Trying to find time for surfing and for reading a good book or watching low-key indie movie.
Spanish and Italian language, history and music.
Enjoying a good dose of dark humor over good wine or beer.
Traveling whenever I can to explore new places and meet new people.
Curious about politics, world affairs, and the cultural differences that shape our world (for better or worse...).

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I tend to drift away from the mainstream—mostly into indie, alternative, lo-fi, cantautori, and a bit of flamenco.
Current favorite bands and artists: Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, R.E.M., Love of Lesbian, Vetusta Morla, Estopa, Jarabe de Palo, Baustelle, Franco Battiato, Fabrizio De André, and Paco de Lucía.
And yes, living up to a gentle Asian stereotype—I also love classical music, especially Chopin, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky.

Books: For Whom the Bell Tolls, 1984, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Il Gattopardo.

Movies: Anything that leaves you thinking or feeling a little more deeply—Arrival, Crash, Sideways, A Sun, To Live, La piel que habito, Volver.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Too many :P...however if I really need to choose a recent one: snow-shoeing in Hokkaido.
