About Me

I am a young, fun, white Anglo-Saxon male in a world dominated by old, boring, white Anglo-saxon males and on some level I'm not too happy about it. Traveling brings me joy mainly because I have the opportunity to meet people outside my own cultural sphere and expand my understanding of the human condition. Sound hippie enough? I suppose it's the kind of thing you're supposed to write cos this is couchsurfing after all.

This summer I'm travelling through Europe - mainly to reunite with my girlfriend in Sweden after 6 months apart, but also to see my sister in the UK, and to do a little investigation of our family history in Wales and Scotland.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people! It's obviously better to connect with local people if you want to get a sense of a place.
Clearly also because I want somewhere to stay as I travel. But that is secondary I promise.

Interests

I work at a kid's outdoor adventure company doing trips outside of Melbourne: camping, fishing, building shelters out of sticks and mud, etc. It's amazing.

I have a broad social circle so spend a lot of time with friends. But we keep it pretty chill i.e. sauna, boardgames, wine + dark chocolate or listening to albums together.

I love food; I want to get better at cooking and learning how to make my tastebuds more sensitive to different flavours. So I will always want to eat with you, and probably cook if possible.

For sustainability reasons, at home I live a freegan lifestyle (meaning: I dumpster dive) but I don't think I'll be able to do that so easily overseas.

Music is amazing, live bands are what I live for, and I love all styles. I play guitar and drums in a couple of bands. Maybe we can have a jam.

i'm involved with social causes - refugee rights, Aboriginal rights, environmentalism and community-ism - and I think about these things a lot. I also think its important to have those difficult conversations where people disagree with each other, but have them in a productive way.

Music, Movies, and Books

Recently: heaps of hip hop like Kendrick Lamar, BADBADNOTGOOD, A.B. Original, billy woods, also jazz stuff like Nubya Garcia, Alfa Mist, Yusuf Kamaal and Rabih About Khalil.

I've been reading a great book by Zadie Smith, and Sapiens, also love Gabriel Garcia Marquez, nonfiction about political stuff or philosophy.

Movies I watch less frequently but I'm pretty into docos or the occasional terribly 90s film.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I got the singer St Vincent on my shoulders at one of her concerts. She loved it up there.
