About Me

I'm Robb (yeah, it's spelled weird, people in the U.S. say that too!), and I'm in my second year at university studying computer science, math, and Spanish. Right now I'm planning a multiple-week trip through 5 countries with my very best friend from high school, Daisy (the one in some of my pictures), and we thought the couch surfing program sounded perfect for what we're looking for! I'm lucky enough to attend a university that's paying for me to study for the fall semester in Madrid, Spain, and by coincidence she's studying in London, England at the same time, so we figured now was the time to make good on our promises to see the world. So we saved up our money, set aside the last bit of the summer, and now we can barely talk about anything else!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As a kid my family hosted a variety of visitors from other countries, and even though I didn't realize it at the time, that ended up as a major influence in my desire to see the world. Additionally, I stayed in a host's home in Perú two summers ago, which cemented my belief that by far the best part about travel is learning about the details of the culture - I'm looking for as many different perspectives in life as I can find!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love watching movies of all types and could talk about it for hours, but I'm a total sucker for emotional movies like Interstellar, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Amelie.
To be super honest, I listen to waaaay too much music; if I'm out of the house and not in class, I'll most likely have a headphone in! I love indie rock, rap (especially in Spanish or from outside the US), and reggaeton above anything else, but it's rare I find a genre I don't like part of. Some favorites are Alt J, Portugal the Man, Calle 13, Ana Tijoux, and Eminem.
Books wise, some of my favorites are Game of Thrones, Slaughterhouse 5, The Heart of Darkness, and anything by Haruki Murakami.

Tell me your favorites; I'm always on the look out for new stuff!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As I briefly mentioned above, I spent 8 weeks volunteering in Perú two summers ago, which was a completely life changing experience. I stayed with a wonderful family in a community of about 200 people while working on our project and spoke only Spanish the whole summer, and the things I learned there about culture, perspective, and family were unforgettable. Ask me about it, my friends are all tired of hearing me rant about it anyway!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love good views and cozy cafes above all else, but I couldn't even imagine what makes every town special, so please share with us whatever you think is coolest about your town and we'll be into it for sure.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Physically, I'm basically always fiddling with my hands and making little origami figures (folded paper to look like animals, flowers, and the like), so tell me your favorite animal and I'll see what I can do! Figuratively, I'd love to share my culture in return for learning yours; whether it be cooking some of my favorite food, talking about my experiences busing around the US, sharing some of my favorite music and movies, or just chatting about what it's like at home.
